This is my favorite 'Surfers album. It meshes conventional songwriting with avant garde flair splendidly. Many songs on it I could do without, but few albums exist without any unwanted baggage. My favorite songs from it are Woly Boly, Butthole Surfer, Dum Dum and Negro Observer.
Three things stand out for me on this release. Gibby's beautiful wails, the occasional horn accompaniment and the off kilter drumming. Without these, it would be pretty mediocre to me.
