pg.lost - Key
wow! this album is quite close to "genius" level, there is such a minute attention given to the layering, arrangement, dynamics and textures that it captivates your attention throughout no doubt in terms of musical structure, it is simple, but there is that understanding of shifts and what works and what doesn't, as compared to a band like Mogwai which I find rather boring, using similar structures, because they have no idea of how the notes click in your brain as you hear it the most enjoyable post-rock i've heard since Godspeed You! pg.lost were a band that I knew I would fall in love with very quickly when I first heard It's Not Me, It's You. Than I did a random google search and found that they were said to release a new album this year, which was Key. Upon first listen, I obviously found a lot of enjoyment in it, and of course, there was also not a single song that I didn't like. Along with the fact that the songs are very well done, the flow of the entire album helps a lot. Going from Spirits Stampede into Vultures doesn't feel like you're listening from song to song, it feels like you're listening to one long song with different structures and feeling. Still the number one album of this year for me, and will probably remain to be so.

First impression was good yet underwhelming. In places I felt it was rather beautiful and didn't just conform to the exhausted formulas and trends of the post-rock genre, but these moments just didn't come around often enough for it to really stand out and impress.
I dunno, this was a tricky one for me. I definitely don't hate it, I don't even dislike it. I like it, i enjoyed it, I just cant see myself really getting into it. Maybe it just needs another listen but the next listen will decide whether it is likely to ever get another one or not. |

I absolutely love this album. Happily listen to it front to back. Any "low points" in the album are seen as build up as far as I am concerned.
I gave it a 4/5 on RYM, but that is near enough the highest score I have given to an album in this style.

Just want to say that I got around to listening to this album a few times and it was fantastic! It's simple but really effective and powerful to me. I might have to check out any other work pg.lost has done, because it was really great!. One of my favorite 2012 albums so far, for sure.
