It's such a hard theme to come up with examples of. Music doesn't exist in a vacuum, most musicians are trying to expand upon earlier ideas. The result being that everything is derivative and no matter what album you point to there's another album someone could point to as an earlier example of that style.

I voted for the Freestyle Fellowship album. I wanna get more into West Coast hip hop, and this would probably be a decen place to start.
