Do you feel this way simply because you have a different opinion than (what would seem like) most others?
For me, this album is a clear 4.5/5, if I were to rate it on RYM. I would say there's a plethora of excellent songs, with simple, lush arrangements, three different vocalists who are all distinctive with excellent voices, and some f
ucking amazing lyrics. The only thing that prevents it from being a perfect indie pop album is the fact that there's some undeniable filler songs. To be expected from an album with 69 tracks, and some, like Punk Love, Experimental Music Love, etc - are where the band's clearly just goofing around. I would rather they weren't on the album but I can forgive based on the amount of fantastic songs that are on the album.
Now, I can see how one might find this album boring, especially if they've only listened once or twice - and I realize the length can dissuade people from listening again - but if you don't dig an album, that certainly doesn't mean others who rate it highly are doing it simply because that's what they are 'meant' or 'supposed' to do. Which seems to be what you're implying, here. This album, to me, is about as good as this genre gets. Fair enough if it isn't your thing, but I'm sure virtually NONE of the people on RYM who gave this 4 or 5 stars did so out of some indie-cred compulsion, rather than simply the fact that they enjoy a top notch f
uckin' album.
