well, i've just heard it in-depth and relistening to it now:-

1) What are this albums' strengths?

Well, the slower, more intimate songs (Graveyard, Caught a Long Wind, Cicadas and Gulls) really draw you in, and her wispy voices sounds it's like whispering in your ear, and you feel really close to the singer.

2) What are its weaknessess?

She can't really do strident upbeat songs. Her voice is too thin and wispy for that and it doesn't soar above the arrangements, unlike, say, someone like Florence from "Florence + The Machine". This is quite apparent from "A Commotion" where you need a raunchy arrangement and a raucous shouted chorus to compensate.

3) How does it compare to the artist's other work?

I'm only acquainted with her quirky pop. Changing her direction into a more PJ Harvey/Kate Bush style certainly benefits her.

4) Favourite songs?

Graveyard, The Circle Married the Line and Comfort Me.

5) What feelings did this album evoke?

Getting to be a cliche, but a kind of austere wintriness with melancholy at failed and unworking relationships.

6) How does this album fit into your regular rotation?

It sure sounds like a grower so probably once a month from now on.

7) What stood out to you about this album's themes, musically/lyrically?

Nothing really remarkable, though "The Circle Married the Line" is an interesting way of looking at things. Most of the lyrics are also often quite poetic and that I like.

8) If you've had any noteworthy experiences with this album, what have they been?

I've been feeling pretty sh!tty these past few days and this one sorta lifted me up from the doldrums, being that I haven't heard anything much these past few days.

9) What do you know about this album's creation? Any interesting facts or anecdotes?

None, so I'll make up my own - Feist, after trying to chart with her quirky pop, gave it up and became more mature.

10) How does this album represent the chosen theme?

Failed/unworking relationships? Pretty good, I guess.

11) How does this album compare to other albums nominated for this theme?

I only have the Kate Bush, which is vastly superior in composition and performance but that lady has more years than this one.

12) How does this album compare to others in its genre?

I'd say PJ Harvey's White Chalk is better than this.

13) Can you recommend similar albums to this?

Florence + The Machine - Ceremonials

14) What does this album's artwork say about it? Is it well paired with the music?

The austere wintriness? yes, it fits well with it.

I found this a pretty difficult album to assess because it`s a beautifully constructed example of a style I don`t much like. So while I`m trying to make up my mind about it, I hope you don`t mind if I cherry-pick some comments you guys made that IMO describe the album particularly well:-

Metals can be both uplifting at times and despairing at times. But overall this album reminds me that we as human beings can experience a multitude of emotions.

^ Yes, and I really like the deadpan way she delivers this powerful put-down:-
When you comfort me.
Doesn`t bring me comfort actually

At first listen, I prefered the livelier tracks that had more going on musically; the slower ones reminded me rather of Norah Jones, with whom I have already maxed-out on bitter-sweet female reminiscences. At any event, I`ll definitely be playing this album again.
