Like Pedestrian, I`ve always been rather intimidated by this album`s reputation and I also didn`t like it on first hearing, because there seemed to be no warm or mellow colours to Can`s musical palette. But the album has really grown on me after a couple of listens; I was won over by the long, ambitious tracks, Halleluhwah and Augmn, and also by the tinny, metallic tone of the lead guitar.
I haven`t managed to play the whole album at one sitting; although I like all the tracks (except Peking O), I find there is a kind of remorselessness to Can`s playing that slowly turns a listening pleasure into an endurance test. None the less, this "shining beacon of Krautwork", as Il Duce rightly calls it, is easily my favourite album so far in the album club. When I`ve played it a few more times I`ll definitely follow up on Electrophonic`s recommendation and track down Monster Movie. So thank you, club members - I now have a new band to enjoy ! |

Although, Can has a great musical output no matter where you look (even with their slightly unpopular post-Damo Suzuki albums). |

i'm not really interested in Mooney's stuff - i have Soundtracks and the vocals on Mooney's songs kinda stink

although i'm still of the view that Ege is nothing great, it's mostly funk |

^ Thanks for the heads up on Future Days and Monster Movie. Seems like you guys have heard so many albums that I`m planning on changing my user name from Listen-aholic to Total Amateur.
BTW, does anyone know of a 1977 percussion-based winter album by a deceased artist ? I want to impress Pedestrian. |
