Albums with interesting stories
Automatic For The People was the last record Kurt Cobain listened to before he committed suicide. It was found in his record player.
Trout Mask Replica, Captain Beefheart pretty much kept everyone involved captive in an isolated house with very little food (due to wanting to use as much money on the record, as opposed to luxuries.) The recording process went on 9 months. Metal Machine Music, allegedly Lou Reed attempting to break ties with his record label and alienate certain fans. It was inadvertently a massive influence on other Harsh Noise bands/albums that followed. Unknown Pleasures, Tony Wilson believed in the band so much that contributed his £8,500 life savings toward the cost of producing the initial run of 10,000 copies of the album. (Taken from Wiki.) Any others? |

Alice Cooper's From The Inside album was written while he was staying in a mental hospital to rid him of his alcohol addiction.
Each song on the album is about an patient staying in the hospital while he was in there. The Fall's Room To Live album was recorded when the band were due to record a single. Mark E Smith decided he'd rather record another album instead without the rest of the band even having a clue what songs they were recording. The album also features guitarist Arther Kadmon who contributed a whole 16 seconds of guitar tracks before being fired.

Bill and Virginia Sherman, I assume Derrick Sherman's (guitarist) parents. Seymour Lane and Michelle Lane, again I assume it's Brian Lane's (drummer) parents. Not sure about the rest. |

MBV's Loveless took 2 years to record, went through nineteen studios, and was rumoured to have cost £250000 and over twenty sound engineers. The recording was also delayed for a couple of weeks after both vocalists caught tinnitus.

The only live parts of Kiss's Alive! album are some of Peter Criss's drum tracks & the audience.
Everything else was recorded in the studio.

It's just an interesting insight into the writing of it. I have a hard time thinking of these things off the top of my head, haha. |
