Release Release Onward On the Silent Wings of Freedom Good: Future Times Rejoice So bad it's good: Don't kill the Whale Meh: Arriving UFO So bad it's bad: Madrigal Circus of Heaven Overall, there's still some shining moments of brilliance, Tormato isn't anywhere near as bad people make it out to be, but it certainly signifies the point when Yes were really losing inspiration, so it was good that they opted for a pop direction, at least two good albums came out of that, the late 80s/early 90s stuff ranges from really bad to mediocre, and sometimes a good song pops up every now and then. But yeah, those were the dark ages. I think every Yes fan celebrated when Trevor Horn got canned and Howe and Wakeman were brought back. Keys of Ascension 1 and 2 are good, The Ladder was decent and showed that the band started putting actual effort into their writing again, and Magnification is really underrated IMO and the first truly kickass studio effort from the band in a long time. Yes are working on a new album right now and I was excited as hell, hoping for a solid follow up to Magnification, but my hopes have been crushed now that Jon is out of the band and got replaced by that funny noises guy from Full House.

Is that a joke?
Are they really using him? I actually didn't mind Magnification too much, and despite what I've just been saying Yes is a band I can't help but follow despite how depraved their music gets. But really now...that guy? I might pass.

He does look like him though. He's some Canadian guy from a Yes cover band and technically he can imitate Anderson's voice really well, but he doesn't deliver it with the same passion. Now, if they brought in Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes and made an album with the Drama lineup, that would be cool, but otherwise, Yes isn't Yes without Jon. |

You sounded so convincing...
Considering I haven't been keeping up with them in recent years, for all I know it could have been totally true...

Here's the guy in action. What the f*ck he's doing at 2: 46 I have no idea, but Chris's facial expression afterwards is hilarious. I might see them if they ever do a show in Memphis, as long as the tickets aren't overpriced, but I dunno, Steve, Chris and Alan are over a hundred at this point and they can't play songs like Roundabout with the energy they had when they were younger, they can still play though, but they need a new keyboardist because Rick's son kinda sucks. As for the new guy, his singing isn't bad, but I dunno, his vocals are too clean and static and it doesn't sync with the band well at all, he sounds like a choir boy going through puberty. Jon sounds a lot more natural, he has the kinda voice that can sell even the most ridiculous lyrics with convincing emotional poignancy. This guy can't do that. Also, as you can see, the guy is a total dork. Last edited by boo boo; 04-07-2010 at 07:16 PM. |
