I've got a bit of time to kill, so I'll do a few myself...
Elvis Costello & the Attractions - Goodbye Cruel World A couple of decent songs aside, not only does this album feature a load of songs having the life squeezed out of them by some hideous production values, they weren't even very good songs in the first place either. Easily the guy's worst album. David Bowie - Never Let Me Down This one deserves a mention for pretty much exactly the same reasons as above. That said, the title track is one of my 10 favourite Bowie songs though. Scott Walker - Any Day Now Probably the man's worst effort (although We Had It All runs it fairly close). It's just so boring and MOR - leaves absolutely no impression on me whatsoever. XTC - The Big Express It's hard for me to hate any XTC album, but this is only album of their's I flat-out don't like. I listened to it a couple of times, got put off by the cheesy, noisy production and the fact that none of the songs really stood out for me and haven't heard from it since! |

'Hate', maybe not. I like quite a few songs, and really like some, but overall, this album offers nothing that it supposedly does with the almighty 'listen all the way through'. This after Starsailor? HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA My favorite review of this album said listeners would feel 'rather gypped'. Boy, do I feel that. |

Radiohead 'In Rainbows' - So lifeless, so boringly assured of its own merit, everything about it sounds "fine" in a sort of stock-taking sense but I get absolutely nothing from it and the mass critical praise it receives leaves me scratching my head.
Pavement 'Brighten The Corners' - The last LP of theirs I got around to, for no good reason. Quite unexpectedly, it is terrible, just a sort of abstract pop mess. A lot of people cite it as their favourite Pavement LP, which staggers me. Public Enemy 'There's A Poison Goin' On' - Man, this is bad. Just a horrible industrial rap mess. First LP without Terminator X and shows how big a part of PE he was. So poor I haven't dare listen to anything they've done since. dEUS 'Vantage Point' - Not just their first less than great LP but a genuine stinker. Utterly bland, lyrically trite, I don't expect to ever play it again. Last edited by DeadShotKeen; 02-05-2010 at 05:53 PM. |

They really had their pop hooks going on there. Their best LP of those since 'A Thousand Leaves' I would say....roughly. 'Murray Street' was a bit great too. 'NYC Ghosts And Flowers' I should have put in this here category. Frankly unlistenable. |

NYC is a cousin album to Bad Moon Rising. It's not brilliant, but it's good enough.
Rather Ripped is not the 80s/early 90s Sonic Youth I love. Fairly lifeless in comparison to Daydream Nation. |

I think 'Rather Ripped' has more of a stoner bubblegum pop vibe than anything from their 80s/90s phase. I like that style with them personally but yeah, if you want the more noisy dynamics I can see why you wouldn't get on with it. Did you try last year's 'The Eternal'? That was more of a return to the dirtier style of old, much more raw garage sound. Personally not quite as good as RR for me but there's not much in it. |
