It's all about perspective.
You see a band who were previously no better than a guns n roses / clash tribute band suddenly come up with something dark & gloomy Joy Division-esque years before it was common to rip them off in the middle of a time when everybody was trying to make cheeky ****ney pop music you probably would sit up & take notice of them.
