I'd say it's solid rather than spectacular , but it's a vast improvement over the 2 that preceeded it.

I've never really understood this whole Exile cut off point regarding the stones , Goats Head Soup while being a step down from Exile is still just as good as anything they put out in the late 60s.

Well, I think they peaked with Let It Bleed, and if Sticky Fingers was a step down from that, Exile was even further down the ladder, but still decent. Goat's Head Soup is, at best, mediocre (and Black & Blue is awful).

Personally, I'll extend Brad's 1976 cutoff for the Stones to 1972. Exile was their last stand for me.
For me, Exile was the end of their "Great" album run.

I don't mind Goats Head Soup, and Black and Blue has "Far Away Eyes" which is a good song. I think Goats Head Soup just has "Following a great album Syndrome", where it doesn't matter if it's decent or not, people are still going to expect Exile Pt. 2.

No way! I think Sticky Fingers is just as good as "Let It Bleed" and "Beggars Banquet", with Exile eclipsing all of them. 'Sticky Fingers' has 'Sway', 'Dead Flowers', 'Ive Got the Blues', 'Wild Horses', so many great tunes. And of course, Exile being my favorite Stones album, no explanation neccasarry.

I grew up loving Queen and all they`re old and middle stuff...

i happened to comment on a Youtube vid how i didnt think much of what they did post `A Kind Of Magic` was any good.... Fkin hell, the hatred and sh!t i got back...

so my vote for this thread is `The Miracle` and `Innuendo` - terrible albums by an immortal band.

I can't stand Beggar's Banquet; Street Fighting Man is the only keeper on there. Sticky Fingers is their most consistant album (all of the tracks are good, unlike Let It Bleed, which has a few clunkers), but the peaks of Let It Bleed (particularly the last three tracks) eclipse anything on Sticky Fingers.

If I had to choose a favorite Stones album, it'd be Let It Bleed...but as far as the desert island scenario goes, I'd pick Sticky Fingers.

BTW, Far Away Eyes is on Some Girls.

Beggars Banquet is probably the most sound Rolling Stones album. It might not have all their wild hits but it's such a strong album. It doesn't deteriorate in the middle like Let It Bleed or Aftermath, and there are some genuinely infectious tunes on there. It opens with such clarity:

Stole many mans soul and faith.
You're telling me Sympathy with the Devil doesn't have one of the catchiest basslines ever? And it's got some sweet backup vocals too...

Sorry, I meant, "Memory Motel" off Black and Blue, not "Far Away Eyes".

I love Beggars Banquet. "Stray Cat Blues" is one of my top 3 Stones songs.
