My Job: 'Pin-the-Genre' on the Artist
Ive browsed around to avoid asking but I'm still trying to pin this artist down to a genre. A sticky I came across helped,
but there are aspects of the music that don't exactly follow those I am familar with. So I'm here in "General". I am kind of a genre-freak about my library and playlists. Personally, I am a genre driven listener and thus orient my personal playlists around that. I do have the 3-4 playlists dedicated to grab-bag style listening. But before I throw it in there, I gotta 'pin it down'. Yeah...i'm like this about 90% of my music. The artist: (My Starving Lion) Website: ........... The Song in Question: ............. Beyond my professional endeavors, I'm stuck on where to put this "Ticker Tape Parade" track under in my Itunes library. (only song available until I get my hands on the full album). So maybe I am making an early call and need to wait for the album release? I work in music and I still can't quite figure this artist or the single track out. I'm stuck in both areas, haha! Any ideas?? My job, in short is finding potential trend setters/modifiers and writing articles/reports about them. Dubbing them I guess is how you would put it. My contribution to those that can help: (setting up my music like this got rid of "i-tunes shuffle blues" for me) Try it out! I kind of think most people who like "a little bit of everything" are mood driven listeners. To me, genre is just cool way of saying mood. So start by genre if you are often get unsure of what you are feelin' like listening to. -Cheers! and thanks for the help! Hope I gave some in return. |

So what is that band My Starving Lion? Beside that site which is not launched yet, facebook page and one youtube video (uploaded by themselves/you maybe), there's nothing to be found on them. You sneaked them in another post as well, so I'm pretty sure you're promoting them. Well, don't! Instead, read the rules about self-promotion and advertising: Forum Rules You're free to send me a PM or to another mod if you need to argue that you're actually not promoting.
If you want to play guess what genre this and that band is, there is a thread that does something similar: http://www.musicbanter.com/general-m...ll-thread.html

finding how music lovers "dubb" emerging or current artists is apart of my effort in helping the industry (through reports) direct their artists sound toward or away from something. The current artist, My Starving Lion, has a sound I accidentally stumbled upon. Actually a smaller band ive worked for told me about their presence at a local show. I went to google and youtube and found them. Simple as that. One comment on youtube said something like, "sounds allot like owl city". Since no one has been able to classify this specific sound. I am trying to. I haven't uploaded a video or anything of the sort for this artist. My other thread is along the same lines as, "genre dubbing". Just a more technical approach to naming genres. So I dont have any idea how I "snuck" them into this forum. They happen to be on my personal plate. I am only using the example of what others think they sound like to apply to other artists that need guidance/examples of this sound trend. |

Just check'd.
saw their pre-release is out and their website is up. Now with that guitar(acoustic) track thrown in.(Summer Skies) I have no idea what I want to call them "officially". Indietronica I guess works for me. lolz Last edited by antiboredom101; 06-09-2011 at 09:01 PM. |
