Ah, well maybe I'm doing this wrong, but instead of the three minutes it took me to get something from mediafire, it's taking about a half hour or so because it only downloads one song at a time. God forbid someone goes offline and I have to cancel the whole thing and go find someone else. And why are some of these files a bitrate of less than 90? Is that not utterly unlistenable to human ears?
I don't understand this, and it's frustrating. I'm angry that I had something that worked, and have been forced into a new program I don't understand. |

OK, I suppose it is a bit slower as far as downloading. I just haven't seen that to be a problem yet. Thing is...it might be slower, but it's there. :/ I'm with ya though woman...I miss the heydays a Mediafire.

The reason it's a problem for me is that I don't download music willy nilly the whole time I'm on my computer. I download it once a week, about 20 albums, and then I deal with those before I pick up anything else. Instead of dedicating an hour or so to the task, I now have to dedicate an entire day. I've been doing this for a couple of hours now and I've only got 4 or 5 of the 20 downloads I allow myself per week. It's a spanner in my works, and it's got me in a bit of a sour mood.

Make sure you're downloading from people with high download speeds. Also make sure you don't have a download limit set as far as how many/fast you can download. Sometimes you'll be stuck with slow uploaders, but if you're downloading as much as you've said, you should be getting some good speeds from certain uploaders too.
Remember, when you do a search for something, the non-greyed results are online, and you can also sort by any criteria, such as file bitrate, download speed, etc. Those two options are the ones you have to pay attention to. |

Soulseek was my saving grace from 2004 - 2008 or so... reliable, virus-free and with all the music one could ever dream of. I haven't used it in years but with the current troubles relating to megaupload and probably others, I might download it again. The private chat rooms were a dream for finding music back then.

Oops, forgot about this after I had to reformat my laptop the second time :/ I'll see what I can do about getting it set up again, but pretty much all my music is on a different HDD at this point...

Downloaded it again - shame to see the chat-rooms are awful now. The program itself seems to be fantastic, still. Someone should set up a musicbanter chat room - we could browse each others' files and download crazy amounts from one another, and with no disconnections like Pedestrian was lamenting. Just an idea... gonna go on a d/l spree just now.
username: gravityslips I have a hard-drive with 30,000 files on it, but the power cable needs replacing so in the meantime - I only have a horrendously organized folder of about 8,400 files. Download what you want. |
