Gender isn't really important. A lot of really cool bands would not be as cool with different members. In This Moment wouldn't be as epic without Maria Brink. Halestorm wouldn't be as good without Lzzy. And I wouldn't like Lacuna Coil as much without Cristina. There's tons more too.
Cool bands = cool bands and it's the band members that make them cool and not what gender they are.

Um, I don't know... I'm referring to the Katy Perry who is insanely popular right now( for the record, I'm not crazy about her, just using her as an example). She released 'Firework', 'Calfornia Gurls', 'Teenage Dream', etc.

There don't seem to be as many great female artists put there but the ones that are are great.

Just in my experience though, I would love to be proven wrong.

That'll explain why you didn't go for the "I don't judge based on their sex but their talent." option then.

I have never enjoyed female vocals in a rock band.

But in pretty much any other genre female vocals can be great and sometimes even better than male vocals.

and **** gets REALLY awesome when a band can combine male and female vocals well. Arcade Fire is a generic example, but they do it really well in many instances

I have a serious fetish for girl garage bands, as they often play with just a little more enthusiasm than their male counterparts - they have to try harder, etc. Shonen Knife, The Donnas, Saharah Hotnights, Gito Gito Hustler, the list goes on and on.

Also, in this day and age, I think gender is almost meaningless. The women are pumping out just as much good music as the boys. Nik Void, Grouper, Evangelista, Laurel Halo - just to name a few - all doing really interesting stuff. Further reason why it's a great time to be a music fan...
