@ Paloma: Tim Armstrong can actually sing. I haven't got a clue why he doesn't...

Scissorman 05-04-2011 02:15 PM

I hate Iron Maiden and I can't explain why. They are good musicians but for some reason I can't stand the music.

He can sing as well as I can grow a boner
Seriously judging your tastes right now, opera is too technical, and now Tim Armstrong is a good singer? Sorry, no.

Colby4780 05-04-2011 02:21 PM

I hate Kiss, one of the most over rated bands of all time, so what if you wear make up and spit blood, that doesn't give you talent. I don't like ONE single song from any of their records, SCREW KISS.

Have you heard his solo album? I mean, it's not brilliant but he has something that seems to be a voice instead of a coffee grinder.

Sansa Stark 05-04-2011 02:25 PM

His pathetic wannabe crooning is singing? A Poet's Life my ****ing ass, he's a hack. The only good thing he ever did was put the Distillers out. Besides, please don't condescend to me in the matter of punk rock, if you were to actually have any knowledge about him, you would have cited Operation Ivy first, not his ****ty solo effort.

s_k 05-04-2011 02:28 PM

Oh I don't even own his album.
I just noticed it sounded a lot more than singing than Rancid does.
That's all I said.

Sansa Stark 05-04-2011 02:30 PM

"It sounds a lot more like singing" doesn't magically give him the ability to sing

s_k 05-04-2011 02:30 PM

It sounds like a voice. Got it? ;).
I don't dislike Rancid, but I don't feel the need to defend Tim's vocal capabilities.

That doesn't mean he can sing.

s_k 05-04-2011 02:32 PM

Allright. You know what I mean now.
It's sort of the same as Dylan's "Nashville Skyline".
It sure sounds a lot more like singing than his other albums do, but it doesn't make him a brilliant singer or something.
I just don't care that much about vocal qualities as long as it goes nicely with the music. Doesn't mean I can't seperate a good singer from a bad one, I guess I just listen differently.
Armstrong isn't a good singer in any way, he just can sing better than he does on Rancid's albums.

Sansa Stark 05-04-2011 02:36 PM

Yeah but I didnt post a comic about how **** of a singer Bob Dylan is

s_k 05-04-2011 02:36 PM

Just trying to explain what I mean.

Maybe not something like John Coltrane's Interstellar Space. That was waaay to out there for me.

snagglepuss 05-04-2011 08:37 PM

I hate...

KISS
U2
Bruce Springsteen
Celine Dion
Kenny G
Michael bolton

BastardofYoung 05-04-2011 09:19 PM

I can not totally hate U2, since they wrote one of the best rock songs of all-time.

That is about the extent of my U2 Love though, a few songs I like, but that is the only U2 song I love, for it is brilliant.

Another one I need to add to my list, may be controversial to some ears.. but here it goes...

The Doors.

I can not stand them, find nothing of value to them. They just bore me to tears every time I listen to them. Jim Morrison is one guy I never understood the whole rock martyr thing. He to me is no more special than one of those homeless schizos on the street who rant on about the end of the world. Morrison to me is just one of those people who stumbled into a studio one day and started singing into a mic and they decided to keep him in the band because it was kinda fun to watch the self destruction.

Just to illustrate my point, pop this track on then try to get it on.

I feel like I'm going to have a panic attack listening to this. Really torturous and I normally love Coltrane.

Paedantic Basterd 05-04-2011 11:24 PM

I inexplicably hate Destroyer and all of Dan Bejar's work that I have heard. I cannot explain what I dislike about his music, there's just something mildly irritating about it.

I think Coltrane took some flack when he moved away from the quartet format and started releasing more free jazz material, starting with Ascension. I guess maybe he felt creatively restricted with a quartet and possibly with always releasing more "mainstream" jazz, the stuff that the audience wants to hear.

Howard the Duck 05-06-2011 12:22 PM

Transatlantic

Dayvan Cowboy 05-06-2011 01:09 PM

I hate quite a few bands inexplicably

Neutral Milk Hotel
Radiohead
Moby
Muse
Anything Thom Yorke has ever touched
Indie Folk in general
Vampire Weekend

I hate a lot of things

Badlittlekitten 05-06-2011 01:21 PM

Kings Of Leon.

Howard the Duck 05-07-2011 02:35 AM

Wolfmother

Chrysalis 05-07-2011 10:17 AM

Nickelback
Hinder

I could normally just ignore them, but my history teacher likes to listen to their music at a loud volume in her car. And when my school goes on field trips, I usually get put in her car (it's a really small school, so we don't have buses), so I have to endure that crap for 2 hours.

Damn, that sucks. Is she at least hot?

Howard the Duck 05-07-2011 12:44 PM

Pearl Jam, though I do like some of their songs.

jackhammer 05-07-2011 05:26 PM

Again I am wondering whether members are just posting bands that they don't like for the sake of it. If certain bands are mentioned then by the nature of the thread they like similar sounding bands but for some reason or another don't like a band that is usually in their favoured genres.

Howard the Duck 05-08-2011 02:24 AM

^^if it's like that, I like Stratovarius and Helloween (powermetal) but completely hate Manowar

Personally I find it funny people are giving reasons why they hate these bands in a thread called 'Bands You Inexplicably Hate'
