Question dream on ?

hi!
I love to sing and I very much want to get into it now.
I couldnt do that before cuz of my parents who want me to become something else
but now I thik its enuff.
I want to sing sing and sing and want to become a great singer one day.
but I dont have the most important tool for the accomplishment-a good voice.
how big a deal is this?
I am way ahead of many as far as dedecation and hardwork is concerned which is reflected from many things that ive achieved so far-but none of them in singing.
once I get in,there is no stopping me.
but can dedication and hardwork aake up for my voice?
its not bad,but not good as well, but I hope with some lessons,I will sure show much improvement.
so can someone not having a good voice become an average singer at least ?
should I dream on and go for it ?
any input will be highly appreciated.
thanks

Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Janis Joplin, Tom Waits in his early years...
Nah, being a good singer isn't neccesary.
And if you want to sound good, there's always autotune .

I could never sing either until I picked up an instrument and learned the differences between notes, scales, harmony.. etc. I still am not the best singer but I perform weekly burlesque shows in which I sing live and the difference is now I understand what hitting the right notes means. Go with vocal lessons before you give up.

Keep livin' the dream baby.
