Mississippi Records
So I was looking for this vinyl record online by Mississippi Records and found it selling for hundreds of dollars on eBay and I was shocked... They're actually pretty popular it seems in the indie world these days thanks to Pitchfork hype and I'm honestly a little confused about it. What about a several year old reissue makes an album worth that amount of money? And it really doesn't seem like that fantastic of a label... I can't understand for the life of me why Mississippi Records is suddenly hugely popular while labels that have been around for years, mainly I'm thinking of Folkways, still have no popularity at all in the indie world or anything. Folkways, btw, is now the Smithsonian's non profit label and has been around for years, releasing thousands upon thousands of albums of old music for years. Just wondering if there's something special about this label that actually makes it that much better or it's just another stupid hype thing.
