Default How rock stars have changed

Funny how Bowie is one of the few who started out looking like an insane asylum patient but now looks totally normal... everyone else is pretty much the opposite

Age is the great equalizer.
I always forgive rockstars for selling out if they have children. Those solid gold baby bottles arn't going to fill themselves.

Roger Waters was ugly bugly when he started out - I wouldn't touch him with a 2 mile bargepole - but he looks uncannily like Richard Gere now

Iggy Pop started out rolling over lit cigarrette butts, ripping his chest with glass shards and masturbating on stage, now he....... plays golf

Wow, people are ageing. That's a shocker!

Nah, he looked pretty cool I think.

Alice Cooper looks pretty much the same as he always has, by the way.

Yes, it`s not exactly headline news.
But what makes us admire some aging musicians, while others, not so much ? For instance, Roger Waters would go into my admired category, but I`m chucking Rod Stewart into the not-so-much box.

This would be my advice to aging musicians:
i) don`t become a parody of yourself. (That means you, Mr. Stewart.)
ii) don`t rely on milking your back catalogue. (Stand up,please, The Beach Boys)
iii) keep it fresh, try something new (though I`m no fan, I have to commend old P. McCartney for that)

Here`s another question we could ask about aging rock stars:
What would the young rock star have thought of his older self (in the impossible circumstance of them meeting each other) ?

Would the young, outrageous Iggy have approved of the golf-player who advertises insurance ? Maybe not.
Would the "Corporal Clegg" Waters have admired of the " Amused To Death" Waters ? Probably ,yes.
I think the young Jim Morrison would have told his latter-day self, " How could you let yourself become such a sad case ?"

That's a fantastic question, actually, and not just for ageing rockers. I wonder how people in their 60's would answer that question, and for how many of them would their younger self have no respect for the older?

Dave Gilmour has made an amazing transformation from looking like a super cool rocker...

...to looking like the president of a bank.

That's awesome if they ever did a biography of the man could have started out being played by Keanu Reeves, and end as Anthony Hopkins.

Pftt... The only difference from a Rock Star and a heroine junkie playing an acoustic on the street for nickels is television exposure.

Terence Hill, as recently confirmed during an interview to an Italian TV talk-show, was offered the role but rejected it because he considered it "too violent". Dustin Hoffman and John Travolta declined the role for the same reason. When Al Pacino was considered for the role of John Rambo, he turned it down when his request that Rambo be more of a madman was rejected.
Al Pacino = God
