Default What Musicians Have You Met?

Have you ever had any run-ins with any musicians?

I randomly met Gord Downie from The Tragically Hip in Kingston a couple years ago in a grocery store. I just said I was a big fan and actually talked with him briefly about the Boston Bruins (I know his Godfather is Harry Sinden). I don't think he still lives in Kingston so it was interesting to see him back there and buying groceries. I also met up with Bon Jovi in a Toronto restroom. He's not as big-headed as you'd think.

No real cool stories from me. I was into the sort of music you hear at Warped Tour back when I was in highschool. Me and a friend went to Warped Tour a few years in a row, and one year we got to meet the lead singer of Bayside. My buddy was a huge Byaside fan at the time and we were front row for their set, and like 10 minutes after the set the lead singer came out along the side fencing kinda where we were standing and signed my friend stuff and chit-chatted for a few minutes. Can't remember the conversation, it was short, and I imagine it was something along the lines of "DUDE U ROCK" and "Thanks man" and not much substance beyond that.

Coolest moment of my life was seeing Method Man live last year. Him and Redman jumped off the VIP balcony and crowd surfed their way into the bar area of this small venue. I mean really small venue. I have no idea why they were playing there. I'm standing by the bar and all of a sudden Meth and Redman are standing right beside me. It was the only time I've ever been like completely star struck and breathless. Like seeing method man directly beside me, I think i may have **** myself at that moment. I shook his hand and still haven't washed it. So that's all i really got, lame I know.

I've also met Gord Downie, and at the moment I can't remember where or how it happened. But I talked to him for about 5 minutes about music and life in general. He was nice. I believe I've mentioned this somewhere else on the forum. Can't find the post though.

I met Dick from Subhumans a couple years ago at a bar here in Philly. He was crusty but nice, everything you'd expect a cool old punk to be.

John Pope from Symphony In Peril ran into him before a show and me and my friend ate lunch with him and he brought us back into the band area at a music festival here in Minnesota.

My meets probably won't be as "cool" as some others may likely be, but:

First meet:
Smoked a blunt with the drummer of Australian punk band Phrenzal Rhomb, while playing a show in Houma, LA circa 96 or somewhere around there. Less Than Jake was the headliner, and afterwards we [the band I was in] ate at a hole-in-the-wall cajun restaurant with LTJ, although they thought they were too good to talk to us, even though (in my mind) we kicked their asses on stage because we had the local population on our side, and we were already known for riot-starting sorts of behaviors.

Second meet:
In Germany, some friends and I went to a He Is Legend show at a small venue and convinced Schuylar and Mitch (yea it was when Mitch was still strumming) to go drinking with us. Had an all-nighter. This was when they were touring with Norma Jean, and yes, Cory Putman showed up as well. I bought him a beer, can't remember what kind, I was drunk... Also saw him messing around with a girl in the guy's bathroom... as far as I knew at that time, he was both married, and a Christian....... dot dot.

Hrmm.. Haven't really met anyone else that anyone would know. Meaning, no one that really made it or anything. I think the best moment would have to be smoking a blunt with the drummer of Phrenzal Rhomb right before our show. Haven't kept up with them in ages, and I don't even know if they still have the same drummer... but guy, whatever your name is, if you're reading this, you rock.
