The packaging was somewhat cool but much too bulky for me. There was something very cheesy about it to me.

Yeah me too! That's such a neat idea. I don't think I'd buy it strictly for the packaging either. But if I liked the artist, damn that would be perfect.

The Metal Opera by Avantasia has a cover the size of a dvd cover and has a booklet inside of the cover. Not that unusual i think, but not exactly like normal cd covers.
Of course i didn't buy it for the cover, but i think it's cool anyways
