Because it isn't prog. I realize it's a related genre, but the areas in which it overlaps with prog are way far on the opposite edge of prog from where Rush resides and thus don't make for a reasonable comparison.

well i'd have to disagree. i think "prog" is just as broad a term as "metal" and "punk." yeah, sure, krautrock bands aren't really comparable to Rush, but a list of prog bands is gonna include some krautrock. same as naming 40 superior "metal" bands to Baroness, you could include things as diverse as Slayer and Darkthrone. i'd argue krautrock has the same motivations as prog, and the outcome is just as different from British and American progressive rock music as the conclusions made by Italo-prog and other such geographically separated subgenres, though i'd concede any day that it's far less guitar-driven.

All I'm sayin' is that it's totally disingenuous to place Kraftwerk in the same category as Marillion. Sorry to interrupt the thread, I just had to say that.
