I like Do Make Say Think (I'm surprised no-one's mentioned them); and, of course, GYBE and Neil Young.

I don't know about Canadian bands that aren't known outside of Canada, obviously.

a few americans really only know him for his remix of Sufjan Stevens' "You Are the Blood" (which is also a castanets cover) but here he is i like him (he's a white rapper ok with sounding white):

I know the drummer for Triumph, Gil Moore, because his daughter went to the summer camp that I used to work at.

Plus, not all of those artists are necessarily bad though, and a few of them were actually popular outside Canada.
