Instrumental rock is pretty much the only genre I don't like to be instrumental.
Although, I do make a few exceptions sometimes, such as with math rock, avant-prog, experimental rock, noise rock, etc. |

YES!!! there are a few instrumentals i like but most are just kind of meh, and there are very few instrumental songs that wouldn't like more if they had vocals.
i just like lyrics and vocals |
i don't listen much to instrumental stuff besides Classical and Jazz
Calexico's instrumentals are pretty good, Mogwai's so-so |
I never had any problems getting into instrumental music, then again I didn't really try until about a year and a half ago, when I started listening to jazz.

There are definitely situations where i love an instrumental piece, even to the point that there are songs to which I prefer an instrumental version. Lyrics, however... I've sung in choirs since I was 15, I think that for me has increased the importance of lyrics within music. While I do see the voice as just another instrument that has to fit into the music, I do still put great emphasis on the lyrics of a song. It doesn't have to be that they need to be about something poignant, but I like the rhythms and feel of different words, and things like that. There's a lot to be said for lyrics and how they can change a song, and I often pay great attention to what's being sung.
That, and it's a lot easier to sing along :P |
