What I do notice is that the singer has a very pleasant voice and sings perfectly in tune. I like the Pakistani instrumental touches and his singing twiddles that make the song sound a little different than most pop songs I hear in the U.S....but overall, the song sounds like the sort of watered-down song I might hear as background music in an Indian restaurant here. :/

I looked up Coke Studio (Pakistan) to learn about the singing show: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coke_Studio_(Pakistan). My guess is that Coke wouldn't fund a show that has musicians who do songs that stray far from popular music.

However, the premise of the show sounds cool: "The program focuses on a fusion of the diverse musical influences in Pakistan, including eastern classical, folk, qawwali, bhangra, Sufi and contemporary hip hop, rock and pop music. The show provides a platform for renowned as well as upcoming and less mainstream artists, of various genres, regions and languages, to collaborate musically in live studio recording sessions."

I don't know if the U.S. has a TV show equivalent to Coke Studio where upcoming and less mainstream artists sing in various genres and languages. Most of the singing shows here seem to be talent search shows where singers always sing *other* people's famous songs, as if those were the only ones that count as "real" music. I don't watch much TV, so I could be wrong.
