Anytime one mentions that song, I think of this...

Anything by the Beautiful South...and as much as this will probably get me lynched, I absolutely despise Fairytale of New York by the Pogues.

Pretty much every top-40 song of the past 25 years I've ever had the displeasure of hearing has been complete and utter garbage. Shit's designed to sell to people who don't know their heads from their asses. Mass-produced with computers instead of real musicians, auto-tune instead of true harmonies... just trash. It's not even music anymore. Saying that modern pop music is "music" is like saying that fast food is "food" just because it's seemingly edible.

I hate Sam Smith's song "Stay With Me" and I don't much like his "I'm Not The Only One" either.

His songs irritate the heck out of me. Listening to Sam Smith's songs makes me want to club something.

I don't like his voice, especially when he sings high up, or his schmaltzy, wavery style of singing, or the whiny, pitiful way the songs describe people clinging to someone who doesn't love them.

A Youtube comment that I read summarizes well my own feelings about Sam Smith's song topics: "Sam smith is talented as **** but he is such a whiner. The dude is only 22 how many times has he been cheated on or broken up with?!"

All this wimpering of "I know you don't love me but stay and hold my hand" stuff causes me to cringe. Begging someone to "stay with me 'cause you're all I need" when the person doesn't even love you? Yech.

Don't just burn his clothes! Leave the relationship!

^ I don't like his voice and topics, either. However, not knowing much about Sam Smith, I read a bit about him and learned that (by his own admission) he suffers from obsessive-compulsive disorder. I wonder if that channels into a somewhat "anxious" viewpoint on relationships that is repeated emotionally in his songs.

I was thinking the same! Actually, I wouldn't even bother burning the clothes -- wouldn't want to give him the satisfaction. I'd just go quietly about my business, then leave! I guess I am very prideful.

Sam Smith is decent in my book. Though I agree with Stay With Me, not a great song by any means. But I can deal with it over most of the stuff I used to listen to on a certain radio station at work.
