Argh! :banghead: Let's see the "Anti-Rebecca-Black"s
Now, I have always been supportive of up and coming young teen stars regardless of jealous hate or criticism. I let the rain fall down with Hilary Duff, Jammed to the Jonas Bros. I barely batted an eye at Miley Cyrus and even gave Justin B a pass. Unfortunately it seems like they were gateway drugs for a new age of commercialism and Ark Studios has been releasing some music that finally has me rethinking if any of this has been worth it.
Anyways I don't want to rant about this at all, instead I would like to channel this frustration by supporting the inverse of this kind of packaged, commercialized teen music. Let's see examples of real, talented, young up-and-coming artists that you have been rooting for or are impressed with. Any genre, any stage in their career. I've got a couple: Nina Ferraro She is an 15 year old alternative/folksy artist, singer/songwriter/guitarist/pianist who's music is more mature than her age. I saw her play a few weeks ago here in Chicago and I was damn impressed, her lyrics are especially past her time imo. I don't think she's got much exposure yet, but we all start somewhere. Here's a song from an interview with her. Her songwriting is impressive, I have had a few of her songs stuck in my head from time to time. And she can only get better from here. He is still in high school, just turned 18, and from what I gather some of the biggest djs in the world are starting to mix him into their sets. I can see why, he has made some serious original jams and his remixes make my favorite songs better, I love this guy. A banger made better: He can't legally get into clubs or drink for another 3 years, but drunk people in clubs everywhere will love him for longer than that i think. ^I hate it when people say stuff like that but for real, this is the worst shit I've ever heard. Her voice is like a teenage girl version of Geddy Lee combined with Stephen Hawking

Lol as much material as there is to bash and make fun of, I wanted to shift the focus and attention off her and onto more deserving and more promising examples of our youth :P
I'll throw another one out there to get another genre in the mix. Earl Sweatshirt (of Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) Odd future might not be your thing, it may offend you, but this guy has flow and is impressive for his age imo. He just recently turned 17 and, is ahead of his time as well (for more than simply the 18+ explicit nature of his music). |
