Big up a Band
SO there's slate a band... so how about biggin' up your favourites? And yet again start a confrontation when people disagree on other peoples' opinions... *dances like a fairy*
And I'm gonna start... I have many favourite bands, many that I would like to big up like... Radiohead being a big one...Muse, Bjork (technically not a band I know), Manic Street Preachers... I dunno... my minds gone blank. BUT. I think today I am going to big up... *drum roll* The Mars Volta. I just get over how ****ing marvellous they are. Their music is so imaginative and experimental. I love it. Omar's voice, so full of passion, his words, so hard to decipher. The tunes they produce... the guitar going crazy, the bass matching it harmoniously, the drums so flamboyant. Deloused at the Comatorium. Its them at their best. Tremulant EP, luuuuuuuuuuurve it. Frances the Mute.... I've only just got it.... But hearing The Widow, I'm sure its just going to be just as Spectacular as the the last. People tell me they think they're ****e... because they can't make out one tune from the next, because the songs go on for too long... But thats music at its best! Thats the imagination flowing. People have just forgotten about the music. They think its all about the sales, how cute they are, how good their voice is. It's all silly. And thats why Mars Volta stand out to me, they do it coz they love the music. I have finished rambling Jen xx

like the the concept of this thread. OK, the band im going to big up, its a toss up between zeppelin, radiohead, white stripes or massive attack.........im gonna go with, well theres no need to big up zeppelin anymore than i have already so here it goes with RADIOHEAD.
right, where to start. they talk about issues in life we can all relate to. everyday things and natural emotions. thom yorkes lyrics have deeper meaning, what you see isnt necessarily what you get. its intelligent music that makes you think. musically they are so progressive- always pushing the boundaries of what can be done with an instrument. their unlike a lot of the run-of-the-mill bands that rely solely on drums, a couple of chords of the electric guitar and a grooving bass beat. they use studio electronics, anything to enhance their sound- they are never happy. the bends and OK computer are two of the greatest albums in history. hail to thief, amnesiac, Kid A, pablo honey, my iron lung- their quality is consistent, every album is at least a 7/10. radiohead have never compromised- threy always do what they feel is necessary. a lot of people are happy with simplistic music, i like a lot of bands that harness simplicity- but the complexity of radiohead is something anybody who actually takes the time to listen with an open mind can appreciate. |

I know, they are just fantastic. Personally I would choose Kid A as my favourite album though, The Bends following up close behind. I've got loads of CD's they've done. All the main albums, les Enfants Terrible, More T. Vicar?, live at the RPM club and more, Ground control to major Thom, lots of singles. LOVE them. Can't get enough of them. Its what you said here 'the complexity of radiohead is something anybody who actually takes the time to listen with an open mind can appriciate' its just so true. I mean just listen to Paranoid Android. There has been NOTHING written that complex and that imaginative since... Bohemian Rhapsody. And nothing will compare!
