What's the best music player?

And for tagging, I just use foobar. Sometimes I'll use a foobar I've set up as a tagger/mini player to do the job. There's a ton of tagging plugins out there, so I'm not so sure mp3tag is necessarily much faster. Besides, I like having control of the databases I use and that's easily achieved with foobar.

I wanted to throw in that I'm a MediaMonkey user (free version). I'm fairly happy, and I do believe it's one of the best ways. IMO, definitely better than itunes. I used to use winamp, loved it, but it glitched out on me. Mediamonkey is very reliable.

Foobar sounds cool, though! Maybe I'll take a look for fun...

I have stopped storing my digital files on my disputer, now they are on a NAS server, this means I don't have to turn my PC on to listen and the files are on 2 disks for security. I don't use my PC as primary music source as the hifi sounds so much better so I bought a squeezebox and stream wirelessly to that.

Buuuuuuuuuut, I used to use either Winamp or Mediamonkey, I use MM to rip CD to FLAC.

A NAS Server, that's basically like a hard disk accessible through the local network? If that's basically what it is, it sounds like a pretty sweet setup.

let me recommend EAC. far and away the best at this purpose.

it's a bit of a hassle to set up though.

I have itunes and quick time. Out of those two I'm perfectly fine with itunes. Most of my tunes are there and I could stare at the effect screen for hours when in the right mood

Does anyone know what's the best music player to use with Ubuntu? I'm currently using Rhythmbox with it but the sound seems to be a bit sharp and thin like with Windows Media Player. Also something a bit more customisable.

You're right in theory, but in practice, the battery life will be eaten away if you use it for tunes. I have an EVO and run into this issue. If I used it for tunes without it being hooked up to a power source, pretty soon I won't have any battery life left to, y'know, use the phone.
