Doyle & The Fourfathers - Man Made

Really fun britpop album, traditional melodies combined with modern instrumentation.

I had five of these to do, and here they are!

I listened to this album probably eight or nine times through, and enjoyed it thoroughly each listen. The overall tone on this album is overwhelmingly dark, resplendent with moments of complete horror in addition to times of exceptional beauty. Jarboe's vocal control and utilization of her voice is completely remarkable, going from a whisper to a snarl to more traditional vocal work with an expertise I have seldom heard from an individual artist. The instrumentation between Jarboe's exquisite vocal work is interesting, effective, and superb. Definitely a top notch album.

My first listen to this one wasn't a completely mind-blowing experience. I thought it was solid, but it didn't really seem to strike any particular chord with me. I put it aside for a few days, then listened to it once again and was almost surprised to note that my feelings towards the recording were much more positive the second time around. Lyrically, it really is a masterpiece. Musically, it is far more interesting than I gave it credit for on the first listen; the jazz sounds are perfectly layered within the songs, and it truly is a well done album as a whole. Songs like "Atomic Bongos" almost make me envision a smokey bar, an audience reeking of whiskey and cheap beer, all nodding their heads and watching Miss Lunch through the smokey haze in appreciation. Definitely some good stuff. I think I preferred the Jarboe album of those two, but this one is rapidly growing on me.

I definitely enjoyed this album. While I do prefer Crooked Crosses For a Nodding God over this one, I still very much appreciate it. Absolutely superb minimalist work, wonderful mood music, and lyrical godliness abound on this recording.

I do believe that this is my favorite Current 93 album I've heard, and I thank bob. so much for sending it to me! It's absolutely mind-blowing stuff. I've only listened to this one twice total, but I already know that I'll be listening to it a lot more. It's really a great album, and again, thank you for sending this to me, bob.!

Of the four you sent, Anhedoniac and Earth Covers Earth were definitely my favorites.

Karl Blau - Beneath Waves

Wow! This one, I am disappointed that I'd not heard up to this point in my life. Very interesting soundscapes on this album, perfect instrumental layering, and pleasing vocal delivery. Definitely an album I really got into. It's certainly more on the indie side of things, and that's not a bad thing in my book, particularly when it's this darn well done! "Into the Nada" and "Ode To the Ocean" certainly stand out to me as particularly superb tracks, along with the opening track "Crashing Waves" and the the closing track, "The Dark Magical Sea", this is a pretty exceptional album.

I thought this was the send something someone don't normally listen to? Sure my last fm has alot of pop and hip hop but I love instrumental type stuff and my favorite guitarists are Van Halen, Jimmi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joe Satriani and the seriously underrated Carlos Santana. My fave would have to be Eddie VH though with Jimmi right on his heels. Anyways, I loved this album thanks for it. I'm definitely keeping it.

Diamanda Galás - The Litanies of Satan (1982)

No, this is not black metal. There's no way to classify this, maybe like screaming opera from hell. Diamanda Galás is known for her incredible four octave range voice, and you just cannot believe what she does with it. This is her first album. The title track is based on the poem by Charles Baudelaire and the second track is for 'solo scream'. I've heard a lot of crazy music, but nothing can compare with the effect that human voice can have. So, if you like hysterical, wild women with steak knives, maybe there's a chance you're gonna 'enjoy' this. There's no middle ground with this, you either love it or hate it. It certainly needs to be heard.

lol you got me. I only made it about 15 mins through the first track and I was like please don't summon the french demon to eat my soul. I couldn't take it anymore. It was pretty rough. Those vocals were definitely raping my ears and I need to file a police report.

Alvin Lucier is an American Avant Garde composer. The man is also a genius. I Am Sitting In A Room is one recording of a few sentences explaining the album, it is played into the room until it becomes distorted and eventually is just a drone sound. The album was obviously pretty influential. Lucier recorded more albums which are also rather interesting but for me this is the best. Music On A Long Thin Wire experiments with what you can do with a single piece of 50 foot wire and a magnet, while Music For Solo Performer revolves around brain waves. I wasn't expecting much when I downloaded this, but I was shocked. This is what Avant Garde music should be like challenging, interesing and completely original.

At first it's just a normal recording, Mr. Lucier explains the purpose of the experiment and how it works. Gradually the recording gets more distorted as it's played and eventually just becomes an ethereal drone.

I rate this album 5 stars because it's so different, there's not any other albums like this one.

This album was interesting. By the time I got to the end of the long single track. I couldn't believe that it was the same thing that started out. It had a weird effect on me. I'm going to keep it to listen to it every once in awhile.
