for James
Bongwater - Double Bummer (1988) I really have a feeling you're going to enjoy this great, a bit forgotten band that existed somewhere from the middle of the 80s to early 90s. Main players are Kramer, well known producer and a head of Shimmy Disc; and Ann Magnuson, actress and performance artist (you've surely seen her in the movie 'The Hunger' in the opening scene with David Bowie). The music is very eclectic, like alternative/psychedelic rock with a bit of noise and a lot of rantings of Ann Magnuson, very provocative and hilarious 'lyrics' (whole fun stories actually). I've been thinking what album to send you, but I decided to send you their first, huge, double album with a good 2h of music. Enjoy! |
so here are two very different albums for Charlemagne:
Fugazi - Red Medicine http://www.gayadesign.com/wp-content...edmedicine.jpg out of what is practically a perfect discography this album "is the cheese"....first off i really think that Guy sticks out on this album....through the years i've always gravitated towards his songs on Fugazi albums...not that i dislike Ian's songs...i just feel more with Guy's....and on this album he just explodes with cynical lyrics and his over energetic style....plus this is when the band started experimenting a little bit more with sound and noise....i hope it's a great introduction to an amazing band Psychic TV - Allegory & Self http://img15.nnm.ru/2/2/0/f/f/218eff...fcdceeea3c.jpg this was a changing moment for this band which tends to fall under the umbrella "industrial" tag...this album is about as industrial as a barren desert....this is more along the lines of LSD laced experimental pop music...with a bit of a flare for 60s psychedelic....although there are still tracks on here that are pure PTV...animalistic, sexual, chaotic and more like cultish worship songs.....i honestly think you may enjoy this.... |
bob... send me something... please?

a couple for theuglyorgan:
Swervedriver - Mezcal Head http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_M_jjIJQmP6...r+-+mezcal.jpg so in a pm theuglyorgan told me he was leaning towards some good indie al la The Flaming Lips....for some reason the first thing that popped in my head was Swervedriver's amazing 2nd album (probably because it came out the same year as Flaming Lips immortal Transmissions From the Satellite Heart)....this album is pretty amazing....in the fact that it incorporates shoegaze, scratchy noise, experimental, and classic pop....it really is an all around great album....and honestly this is essential 90s alternative rock.... concentrate on the lyrics of Blowin' Cool :) The Black Heart Procession - Amore Del Tropico http://betterpropaganda.com/images/a...ession_480.jpg so these guys...if you haven't guessed by their name....are a bit on the dark side...but still this is some amazingly good pop music...with great lyrics, kind of avant-garde instrumentation, great pop chords, and again the darkness within the lyrics and music....and the best part is that this album is in fact a murder mystery rock opera :)....so listen to the entire album and see if you can figure out who the murderer is :) |
^ That second one sounds so cool, I've downloaded it and will listen to it later tonight.

For Rezz:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_GklZ4PTnjF...-cover_gr.jpeg Virtually no YT vids or internet info means good times to me! Nothing particularly original but it is a fantastic groove based stoner album that slipped under the radar. Norwegian in origin and well worth a look. |
No one has sent me anything, and that makes my heart sad.
|
