For Charlemagne:

Alkaline Trio - Goddamnit (1998)

We do have nearly opposite tastes, but there are two areas in which we overlap--pop punk and folk punk. I know that you like some emo and pop punk, and Alkaline Trio being my most played artist on last.fm and all... well, you must try their very best, Goddamnit!

For theuglyorgan:

Germans - Cape Fear (2007)

They take Pavement/Built to Spill/Dinosaur Jr. style 90s indie rock and add a keyboard. The result is pretty cool and the song writing is very good, IMO. It's also one of the only things in my collection that makes me feel like a hipster because nobody has ever heard of it. Enjoy!

I like Alkaline Trio but I've only heard specific songs here and there and looking over that tracklist. I have Clavicle in my collection. one of my favorites by them.

Improvisational, psychedelic collective, kinda similar to the one above, but more droney and spaced out. Start tripping!
****ing love it. Very much reminded me of Can, and even had some Sun Raish elements mixed in except well more atmospheric than the two. Wonderful listen. It was repetitive at a few points, but I mean, that's the nature of the beast, and it's a beautiful beast.

It's maybe their only true start-to-finish album. 'Cop' is my favorite tune!

I listened to it twice and it's one hell of a sound. Unique and interesting, to say the least. The LOUDANGRYBITS juxtaposed with the softquietbits was cool at first, but it grew stale by the end of the album. But, despite the genre-tag "cybergrind", there's a fair amount of melody in this music and that makes it pretty alright with me. Thanks Alberticus!

oh, and, the album artwork matches the album sound perfectly
No problem, glad you found it interesting. I think the "cybergrind" tag really only applies to their first EP and some of their debut full-length. To me, this is more like Converge-esque mathcore with synths and electronic breaks.

Bob sent me...

Action Swingers - Decimation Blvd.

The first thing I notice about this is the list of related bands which reads like a who's who of my record collection so God knows how this band managed to escape my radar for so long.
The album itself has 14 songs and clocks in at a massive 20 minutes long so at least I knew I wouldn't get bored listening to it.
Musically it falls somewhere between a faster, more grungy version of The Saints & a white Bad Brains which is a pretty good place to be if you're making an album that's trying to appeal to me.
Usually I have 3 rules when it comes to this sort of music..

1. Be abrasive
2. Be sleazy
3. Sound like shit

Thankfully this album has 1 & 3 in spades.

I'd love to tell you what my favourite songs were but in all honesty the whole album was over before I had chance to choose any, and I don't know about you but I'd much rather be left wanting more than get bored halfway through and turn it off.
If I do have once criticism it's that some of the songs sound far too much alike. But as most of them are barely a minute long this can easily be forgiven. it's not the most original album you'll ever hear but as far as i'm concerned give me something with 3 chords and some attitude and originality can go fuck itself.

Overall a very good recommendation
7.5/10
