But music, unlike, say, social viewpoints or taste in clothing, isn't something that can be changed through debate. Someone can be made to respect or appreciate something, but they won't actively listen to it because it's not pleasing to them. I said it to justify the video's post in a "Good cover of bad songs" thread, especially one where most people just posted covers and said "WELL IT'S A GOOD SONG BUT STILL".

I think Umbrella is a bad song. Not a Rhianna fan.
But I love Tegan and Sara's cover of Umbrella. Another cover by the same band, they did Steel Train's Turnpike Ghost. And, while I love Steel Train, I despise his voice in that song. Lastly, The Carpenters aren't any good in my opinion, but I really dig Sonic Youth's version of Superstar. |

It's originally done by Delaney and Bonnie & Friends, and their version is SICK - Clapton on guitar, Carl Radle on bass, Jim Gordon on drums...Bobby Keys and Jim Price on horns...and it was titled (Groupie) Superstar. So it would be a good song that got covered horribly and then reclaimed. |
