Chromatic Chord Progressions
I respect the I thru VII table as a reference for creating chord progressions, but i like to get a little dirty when it comes to music. the only chromatic chord progressions i know are :
- IV, IVb3, I (e.g. Amaj, Am*, Emaj) - I, V, bVII, IV (e.g. Gmaj, Dmaj, Fmaj*, Cmaj) - bII Dom7th, I (e.g. Db7*, Cmaj) *Dissonant Chords Any ideas? Nothing TOO too dissonant... |
IMO the best way to have fun with chromaticism and dissonance is by using augmented 4ths/7ths in regular chords, especially both at the same time. Some think I to flat II is also pretty cool, but I find that metal kind of did that do death. I prefer it when the actual chords are made to sound creepy and unsettling, rather than just have a chord that doesn't fit into the 'major minor minor major major minor diminished' scheme of things.
