Default Does image matter?

Does the image of a band change what you think of them? It can be before or after you've heard their music.

For me, it might only matter slightly before I've heard them.. I just hear people sometimes complaining of how "punk" some bands look and don't sound it. I hear people complaining about the difference between the way Simple Plan dress and sound... Just wondering what you guys thought ?

image isnt particulary important to me. though i hate bands that try too hard to look menacing or sleazy or street. and i especially hard to look like they dont care about their appearance.

Yes. And No.

I mean I personally don't care how a abdn or grooup, singer or whatever is viewed by the media so long as it doesn't effect their work.
Unless you're being slandered by MTV which is a nother story entirely.

I mean bnads like DogStar don't get tooo much press or anything because Keanu reeves is in the band and so not too many people take the band seriously because Keanu is an actor.
And no I do not listen to DogStar. For my own personal reasons.

And then when you're a band like Limp Bizkit, not too many people care about how your front man is portrayed in the media because it's just one guy and not the entire group.

Peace out.

it depends
i personally care more about the music (like most of you, i guess) but let's just say they should take care of themselves and stay cool (be casual)

Of course image matters. Image and music go hand in hand. People are just stuck in self-denial and cant admit their obsession.

Yeah that doesnt really answer the thread question, I know. I dont really think a reasonable person would judge a band by the way they look. If so, then go back to watching Extreme Makeover, you shallow f*ck face.

i don't agree. first of all, you can't talk about so many people as if we're all the same. "image matters" is your opinion, you don't have to find an "excuse" for what you think by saying everybody thinks that and won't admit it.

well DUH it's my opinion. that's why I said it.
And yes, people are ALL the SAME. You, that one guy, that other dork, ALL totally the same. And, I dont need excuses for anything. I can say whatever I want, when I want. Also, image does matter. Do you look in the mirror before you leave the house? thought so. And, you probably put a bag over your head too.

do you consider yourself the same as all the other people? thought so. because we're not the same. and image matters for those who "wear" it, for those who wanna criticise or for those who really think it's important. i care about the way i look when i get out of my house but i don't care about how bob dylan looks like, for example.

People make concious and subconcious judgements about EVERYTHING based on physical appearance, not Just music, So as much as you want to say that it doesn't matter, it does. It may not hold as much weight for you as other criteria when it comes to judging something, anything, but to deny its influence is crazy. The record industry wouldn't be dressing "artists" up like paper dolls if it Made no difference one way or the other.

ikage is just as important as the music, I mean I can understand not wanting to get all caught up in the image thing, but punk for example is just that. So dress how ya want and play what ya feel.
I agree with Hookers. Thay go hand in hand....and usually, you get an image of them in your mind before you see them and imagine that they must look how they sound....give me one example of a musician that dosen't promote image with music, or music with image....HA! Thought so....LOL! GOOD POST THOUGH!
