i really need to get into neil young, what album should i start with? idk what it is about his voice, its unique i just really like it, easy 9/10

Andrew Bird - Anonanimal

Charlemagne 11-30-2010 10:37 PM

I really like Andrew Bird, that album and that song. I think his lyrics are incredibly smart and clever and the instrumentals are lush and great as usual 9/10

That says something. I'm going to add the album to my "check it out" list. 7/10.

The Black Heart Procession - "Square Heart"

Insane Guest 11-30-2010 11:19 PM

Sorry to say, it's not really something I would listen to. It's a bit to dull for my taste. It's by no means a bad song though, I found my self playing air drums, always a good sign.
6/10

sidewinder 12-01-2010 12:25 AM

Yeah The Black Heart Procession is not for everyone, I find their sound a bit dull most of the time too - or maybe dull is not the right word, but depressing. That was one of my favorite songs by them though.

Squarepusher - "Iambic 5 Poetry"

(it really comes alive after 2:00)

bob. 12-01-2010 03:55 PM

10/10....that was freaking great....i actually loved the first couple of minutes....what an incredible song....i will have to look into them

Satisfact - Demonstration

s_k 12-01-2010 06:04 PM

7/10
It seems like a mixture of Franz Ferinand and the Clash. Which sounds like a good Combination, but in the end the song itself isn't too interesting for me. Could be very well that other songs of this band work for me. I'll have to check that out :)

P.s.: PEZ!

I'd say Harvest and After the Goldrush.
And you might want to try Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's "Déja Vu" as well.

Oldschool Ska from Japan.
It has to be your thing. Wonder what the next person thinks :)

I'm surprised you didn't know Squarepusher already! Glad you like the song, it really is amazing.

I'm digging the Satisfact song, I'd never heard of them before. I see they share some members with bands I do know and enjoy on occasion: Lync, Love As Laughter, FCS North and Modest Mouse. I shall investigate further. 7/10

At first I thought it was a misspelling of Hot Snakes. :D But definitely not. Playing it now. I'm not the biggest fan of ska but like the occasional song - I just never got into it to the point of buying anything, except The Specials. This is not bad at all, but wouldn't persuade me to investigate further. 6/10.

I just posted this in the video thread, but whatever. This is "It Won't Be Long" by Super_Collider, a collaboration between Jamie Lidell and Chilean techno dude Cristian Vogel. Best enjoyed on good headphones or a good soundsystem. :hphones: Stock iPod headphones? Don't bother.

Badlittlekitten 12-01-2010 06:11 PM

Liked that more than I thought I would. Liked the funk guitars. 7/10
Edit: dam it too slow

sidewinder 12-01-2010 06:14 PM

Doh I'm too slow too! Shyte...editing my post above.

s_k 12-01-2010 06:41 PM

Glad I'm not the only one messing up this topic now and then ;D.

i highly suggest the album "The Unwanted Sounds Of"....if you need pm and i'll send you a copy....this album is pure plutonium....

9/10....the beats were hypnotizing....the bass is just unique i can't put my finger on it....almost kind of Mike Patton inspired vocals....and the video was indeed incredible

and now or something completely different.......

OFF! - Darkness....Keith Morris can do no wrong

Never heard of this band but I really liked this song, after checking RYM I can see that they are relatively new. Great to see more up and coming Punk bands that don't suck. Once I get my internet working I shall be searching for a release by these guys.

dankrsta 12-02-2010 01:57 PM

^^That's some good old rock 'n' roll, nothing more and nothing less, and I love it just like that 9/10

Trans Am - 'Play in the Summer'

Insane Guest 12-02-2010 04:25 PM

Not a big fan of his vocals. I like the music overall, just nothing special about the singer, it did get a bit boring though. 7/10

bob. 12-02-2010 04:34 PM

10/10...doesn't that guy run Gringott's Wizarding band?....the song was excellent....a nice mixture of dance/electronics and even a kind of 80s/New Order-esque guitar thing going on....the video was great

docfunkenstein 12-02-2010 06:03 PM

very interesting stuff. reminds me alittle of some symphonic metal bands, except this focuses alot more on the symphonic side of things 9/10

Jazz Pistols " Vix 9 "

Badlittlekitten 12-02-2010 06:03 PM

^ Really not my cup of tea to be honest. Too much emphasis on trying to sound gloomy and sounded pretentious as a result. 4/10

docfunkenstein 12-02-2010 06:21 PM

^looks like we went at the same time

8/10..always down for some classic old school soul funk. two thumbs up

again:
Jazz Pistols " Vix 9 "

Insane Guest 12-02-2010 09:37 PM

Wow is all I have to say. Very talent musicians there, very fast, very good.
9/10

Kool Keith's most awesome alter-ego in my opinion, great stuff. 8/10

Man Man - "Engwish Bwudd"

Charlemagne 12-03-2010 11:41 AM

That song is incredibly awesome, and Man Man are incredible live, I love the playfulness of this song and the gypsyness of it, it makes me so happy. Great band, song and album. 9/10

Not a bad little song. nothing particularly standout except the odd percussion. Wasn't much for the voice, though. Pretty, true, but not necessarily standout. Albeit, the usage of violin, albeit minimal, was interesting.

6.5/10

Meh, not a big fan of that. I'm a hge fan of bands like Soft Machine and Caravan but that song was just bland, repetitive and uninteresting. 4/10

If you don't like this, get out! You have problems!

Well, I liked it! But I didn't love it :p: Definitely something I can listen to but I'd have to be in the mood for it. Pretty upbeat and chill all in all. 7/10

s_k 12-03-2010 05:54 PM

Can't say I enjoyed that.
I thought the intro was too long and a bit dull.
Not to brilliantly played either.
I could say that the style of this song is interesting, but I wouldn't know a reason why you want to make it sound like this...
Had to force myself to finish listening the song so I could score it decently.

Score:
3/10.
Sorry ;)

Feels a bit mean to be so negative. So I hope you won't like what I'll be posting next :D

And now for something completely different:

Charlemagne 12-03-2010 07:50 PM

Eh not really my thing, kind of got annoying after 2 minutes, especially when the mouth thing came in...3/10

Sljslj 12-03-2010 11:38 PM

Omg, I almost couldn't even make it through that. I'm sorry, I didn't like that at all and not just because it was rap (though that didn't help). 1/10.

docfunkenstein 12-04-2010 12:18 AM

i listen to a buncha different types of metal, but this doesn't really do it for me. it tries to be technical and all in your face, but ends up just being a bit obnoxious and hella monotonous. 5/10 for the bridge

and rap definitely has its moments

Digable Planets - Where I'm From

such a chill album

James 12-08-2010 09:36 AM

I liked it, nice song. Good flow. I have Blowout Comb but this song isn't on there so I need to get more by them.

dankrsta 12-08-2010 09:59 AM

^That's pretty good, I like the overall positive feel. I haven't listened to Uncle Tupelo much for some reason, but I think it's time to start now. What album is this song from?

Mercury Rev - Chasing a Bee

Raust 12-08-2010 11:33 AM

^^^
I really liked it. Very 90's and out there, but it sounds great.
8/10

really didn't like it that much his voice irks me in the bad way 4/10

this voice irks me in the good way (don't make this creepy)

Charlemagne 12-08-2010 06:31 PM

I love that song, but I can't decide if I like the original or Owen Pallett's cover version better, either way it was still wonderful 8/10

Insane Guest 12-08-2010 09:56 PM

Umm, the video was quite entertaining...

But really, the guy is good singer, but I didn't really find anything I could tap my foot to, or in that case, nothing at all. It's pretty boring. It really isn't for everyone. 2/10

Sljslj 12-08-2010 10:39 PM

I've never heard of this group, but it's definitely something I could get into when I'm in the mood for something a bit slower 7/10 :)
