I've seen the Libertines live but without Pete and i saw Babyshambles a couple of times years ago. None of these gigs were terrible, they were alright actually but I dont own any Libs stuff (even though i've heard all of it) and I only have the first Babyshambles album which isn't very good. Musically I dont think either band have exactly been groundbreaking in any way but I don't think they are terrible. I also think that whereas Pete Doherty is no genius songwriter, that he's a better songwriter than he gets credit for.

So as indifferent as I am to his music, I do think the guys a bellend and would probably benefit from a quick swipe for sure.

He seems like a right plonker and I've heard both Libertines albums and the only song I remotely like is "Can't Stand Me Now". Don't see what is (or was) the big deal about them.

Wasn't a lot else like that going on in UK Indie-Land at the time, plus it took that long for any band who had a go at Blairism to emerge I suppose.

^Say the same about (or take it away, i guess) Oasis when they released Definitely Maybe but yeah I think The Libs did come a long with something that may not have been groundbreaking but was solid and breathed some life into a stale mainstream British Indie scene at the time. Then they failed to capitalise on it and became quickly boring.

Basically, i've nothing against the mans music, he's just a fuckwit.

You would still knock his front two teeth out, though?

I can't stand the guy, but I love his lyric..

I dig both of The Libertines' albums on some level, although I'm not in love with them by any means. However, regardless of their quality of work, Peter Doherty is still a major-league douche who could use a good head-stoving, which is totally a word after all.
