All top notch Soul singers. Hard to choose.
Smokey Robinson - The best songwriter of the four. 'The Tracks Of My Tears', being my favourite. Sam Cooke - His greatest record was 'A Change Is Gonna Come' (the flip side to the single 'Shake') released after his death. Marvin Gaye - 'Lets Get It On'. Also his duets with Tammy Terrell, 'Aint No Mountain High Enough', 'Your Precious Love', 'Your All I Need To Get By'. Otis Redding - Only 26 when he died and yet his songs sound like they came from a man with so much more life experience! Dont know where to start! A man with real Soul, his records full of emotion. Hard to believe he only ever had one top twenty hit with 'Dock Of The Bay' |

Reading back on this list I seem to have missed out Al Green and put in Otis Redding instead. Still can't choose a favourite from the list but Al Green certainly belongs on it (as do many others). I'd say Al Green's best was 'Call Me (Come Back Home)'...sad/painful/uplifting...Soul's "loveman". |
