I figured they'd have the lead in this poll. The irony of a man like Kurt Cobain "inspiring" the current gen of modern rock music is too tragic to pass up.

Emo didn't kill punk, it became an offshoot. Maybe the emo you're thinking of made modern rock bland as hell, but the emo I'm thinking of has had no impact whatsoever on radio rock of the 21st century.

I take it you mean good emo. At the Drive in Emo rather then Dashboard Confessional emo. Yeah. You're right.

For the record, At the Drive in. At the Drive in are terrible and bands that want to be At the Drive in are terrible.

I love The Beatles and The Beach boys, but not the music they inspired.
Same with Nirvana, Velvet Underground, and Led Zeppelin.

Music would be pretty shitty without the VU's influence. They influenced countless bands.

EDIT: Meh, I may as well rattle off a few artists the VU influenced:

The Jesus & Mary Chain
Sonic Youth
Joy Division
Bowie
Sonic Youth
The Pixies
R.E.M
Roxy Music
Nirvana, funnily enough.
