sometimes I don't thrill you
sometimes I think I'll kill you
just don't let me fuck up will you
'cause when I need a friend it's still you

My dad sung this to me and my siblings as a lullaby when we were younger. He has a terminal brain disease now... this song just almost always brings me to tears and never fails to make me very sad

Built to Spill - Things Fall Apart

Before this album came out last year, I never thought it would contain a song so powerful it moved me more than anything they'd ever written before. Though admittedly, I was in a state that made me particularly vulnerable and the lyrics seem to fit perfectly, bringing some clarity or affirmation to my actions, almost like a best friend telling me "hey, it's ok", and finally being able to let it all out.

I still remember the day the album came out, I got home and was listening to it through headphones while cleaning dishes and preparing dinner, being completely blown away by it. It practically stopped me in my tracks.

"We've all seen enough, now its time to decide
The meekness of love or the power of pride
It doesn't matter if you're good or smart
God damn it, things fall apart."

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

I'm not sure. Probably one of these two: In the Ghetto (Elvis Presley) or Pearls (Sade):

Many, many Cat Power songs make me teary, but especially this one. And she's the only artist that can do that constantly.

YES. to Joanna Newsom.

Cat Power and NMH also do it for me, but more with these songs:

(at the "I could stay here, become someone different..." part)

and

(at "And in my dreams you're alive and you're crying...")

Others that leap to mind:

[edit: well the last one won't work, but it's "Walking on a Wire" by Richard & Linda Thompson]

A lot more. I kind of get teary-eyed more than I'd like to cop to.
