Nobody mentioned Chicago's Drag City. Some great music there from the end of the 80s and beginning of the 90s onwards: Royal Trux, Gastr del Sol, Jim O'Rourke, David Grubbs, Will Oldham/Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Silver Jews, U.S. Maple, Smog, Six Organs of Admittance, The Red Krayola etc.

as for labels...i like most of the stuff Mute puts out....every record put out on Amphetamine Reptile is an absolute gem...and i second Touch and Go....an amazing and versatile label |
