It's an English colloquial response of surprise, typically used in the North. Over here it's 'ecky thump', the Stripes obviously changed it a bit. White's wife is from Lancashire, and she said it once.

Cherish that little factoid.

Wanna hear Jack play with a good drummer? Listen to his early band, The Upholsterers.

I thought technical skill was unimportant?

Ironically, nowhere near as good as the Stripes. Meg's style suited the music perfectly.

You're right. I never said The Upholsterers were better, they only made 3 songs.

Where in the phrase "Wanna hear Jack play with a good drummer?" did I say that technical skill was important? The White Stripes are better than The Upholsterers, that kind of proves my point that technical ability isn't everything.

Meg is a notoriously simplistic drummer. It's fairly obvious that you meant technical skill... (you can argue semantics all you want). If anything, Meg was the perfect drummer for Jack, and (like Stu said) it suited the music.

EDIT: Oh, and I saw a few people mention The White Strips' debut album as their favorite, and I have to say that it's mine too. I love the garagey/under-produced aesthetic of it all (not to mention it feels more energetic to me than their later releases).

Yes she was the perfect fit. The drummer for The Upholsterers is more technical, but in no way did I say that technical ability is everything. I was simply saying, if anyone wants to hear Jack play with a good drummer, listen to The Upholsterers. Nor did I say that they were better than The White Stripes.
