when i first heard them i thort they were good. but working in a rock club in between bands i always have requests to play the white stripes, and due to the requests i have found myself sevearly overplaying them and im starting to hate them, i still think they are ok tho.

I actually think what I love most about them that it's just the two of them and yet they seem to be able to make some pretty extraordinary music. I don't find them boring at all actually quite the opposite. For me they're a breath of fresh air.

Yeah, the fact that they only have two people is what makes them so good. And Meg knows she isn't any good on the drums...she learned them just to play with Jack. It's the simplicity involved with the music that makes it what it is, I think so.

Its not that they dont have musical talent. They intentionally keep their music simple. They are supporters of De Stijl, a dutch artistic movement, that trys to find beauty in simplicity, hence the 3 colour wardrobe(white red and black), and simple tunes. They consider themselves artists in the very way they live their lives. I personally enjoy their music. You may think that Seven Nation Army and Hardest Button to Button are simple, but the rest of the album (Elephant) is a quite a bit better.
Keep in mind when they started the band, Jack had been playing guitar for a number of years, but Meg had no previous drumming experience, I greatly respect that. Oh ya and to clear up the whole sister-wife thing. Jack and Meg have no relation to each other. They were married, and then divorced. There are documents out there that prove this. I dont know why they tell the media they are brother and sister, maybe to confuse us, or to create mystery. No one really knows. I hope I cleared up some Stripes myths. |
