#30. Kraftwerk: Autobahn http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31oYPv1630L.jpg Let's face it, kiddies, without Kraftwerk your Lady Gagas and your Miley Cyruses would be folk musicians. Kraftwerk is reponsible for IDM, Electro, House, and a whole crapload of other genres. If you don't like Kraftwerk, that's okay. If you don't like Kraftwerk's influence on pretty much everything, you can go away now. #29: NEU! http://zuehlke.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/neu.jpg I seriously love this band. They're the Kraftwerk castaways that proved to be just as influential as the band they were kicked out of. The song Hallogallo is a true masterpiece. it's floaty, it has the signature motorik beat and it's the song that launched a revolution. Negativland is one of my all time favorite songs, with the construction site opener and the gloomy, straightforward bass. This is one of the bands that got me in to music. my only problem with this album is Lieber Honig because it has one of the most disturbing vocal performances ever. |
^Nice, two of my favourites. Not the best album by either band though. I know you said Neu! 75 is on here though so i'm not worrying.

#28: AFX: Analogue Bubblebath EP 1 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41FtoXl84BL.jpg This is AFX's (Aphex Twin) First release. It's quite odd, but I like it. You've got the nervous sounds of En Trance To Exit (Feat Schizophrenia) blaring in your ears, you've got the deranged Isopropophlex with it's claustrophobic sounds surrounding you, teasing you, almost, and then there's AFX 2 (Feat Schizophrenia), the nightmare inducing techno track, a track that I don't recommend listening to before you sleep. The last 3 tracks on this EP are quite dark, but the first track (Analogue Bubblebath 1) is beautiful, it's like his later track Pulsewidth with a whale-song-esque synth line over top of it. It's amazing, and if you've never heard this song, I recommend getting your butt onto Youtube and looking it up. #27: Boards Of Canada: The Campfire Headphase http://media.warp.net/images/WARPCD1...kshot_1000.jpg Though it's not their best, it's still a great album. I mean, everybody hated it at the release, but come on! you can't blame the brothers for wanting to try something new. They've been doing the same thing for almost a decade at the time of release, you really think they're going to repeat MHTRTC? No. That's boring. Give the brothers some love. |
#26: Lightning Bolt: Earthly Delights http://thenoiseis.files.wordpress.co...y-delights.jpg Oh, how I loathe the term "Noise Rock". That's what my uncle calls my more avant garde music. It sounds so derogatory. IT doesn't really describe it that well at all because all music is noise, just some strains of rock are noisier than others. that doesn't mean that it's bad, but a lot of people do associate noise rock with terrible music. lightning bolt's Earthly Delights is far from terrible. I was recommended this by a few MB members and I love it so far. I've listened to it a billion times, and it's so good :D! The Drummer on this record is amazing, he's up there with Damon Che and Zach Hill. I am not a drummer, but I still respect him, Cuz he's nuts! My favorite song on the album is Nation Of Boar, because of how frantic and emotional the song is. Distortion to the max, bro! #25: Mogwai: Mr. Beast http://tudsmudh.typepad.com/.a/6a00d...248c970b-800wi At first, i thought this album was Mogwai's weakest. It took me at least five listens to fully understand what this albums is about. In my opinion, this is a gloomy album, meant to be enjoyed on a cloudy, rainy, stormy day. Post rock is meant to be gloomy. One of my favourite songs on here is Team Handed and it is quite beautiful. it's very hard to explain, that song, though. you need to hear it to understand it. Friend of the night is another favourite from Mr. Beast, totally giving off that gloomy post-rock vibe. |
Mr Beast is great. I still like Young Team and Happy Songs more, but I'm always happy when i see Beast get some love.

#24: Fuck Buttons: Tarot Sport http://bothbarson.files.wordpress.co...pg?w=445&h=445 sorry, mods. it's not my fault they're called F*ck Buttons. But, despite the terrible name, this is a really good album. Sure, some people might find it noisy or abrasive, but I love it! It's drone music at it's best, with complicated layers and danceable tunes that go on for ten minutes but feel as if it was only four minutes long. Very few artists can accomplish that feat. Olympians and Flight Of The Feathered Serpent are easily the best songs on this album. This is one of my favourite albums of '09, and if you have yet to hear it, go get it now! #23: Foals: Antidotes http://sneaky.me/wp-content/uploads/..._antidotes.jpg I loved this album. From the dancey mathy rawk tunes to the atmospheric qualities of tracks like Big Big Love (Fig. 2) and Like Swimming, this is a great album. I remember hearing this for the first time in 2008 and thinking it was the best thing ever. I remember being SOOO exited for Total Life Forever, but then they dropped the math part of their ego and went on to be an ordinary indie band. That made me really mad. they completely ruined their unique edge. Screw you, foals, Screw you. |
Dancey mathy rawk huh? Maybe I will give that a listen. I've been aware of them for a few years but have never listened.

i recommend you get Antidotes and if you really want to, get Total life. |
Tarot Sport slays, good pick. It's way better than Street Horrsing, even though Street Horssing has some awesome screaming.

Aw yeah, that song is absolute perfection.
|
Nice one on the picks:thumb:. Foals are amazing although I don't think their new album was that bad. I think they've definately matured a bit but I would agree with you in that they have lost what made them stand out from the NME crowd. Tarot Sport is an amazing album as well which reminds me I need to check out Street Horrsing.

#22: The Breeders: Last Plash http://images.uulyrics.com/cover/t/t...ast-splash.jpg You didn't see that coming, did you? The only alt rock album I truly like. #21: Mogwai: Happy Songs For Happy People http://betterpropaganda.com/images/a...Mogwai_480.jpg Yep. More post rock. can somebody keep count? I'm starting to sound like those fanboy elitists on the internet. That aside, this is a pretty cool album. I find it more electronic sounding than most of their albums, but that doesn't mean it's bad. I really liked the song Hunted By A Freak. It's one of my favourites next to Kids Will Be Skeletons. Post rock forever, bros. It's a genre that needs way more love. Come on, guys, it's not as bad as you think it is. ;) |
#20: Amon Tobin: Foley Room http://imgnews.music.mop.com/album/2...0319180644.jpg Ah, Amon Tobin. A guy that never ceases to amaze me with how far he'll go. A lot of artists Claim that they're pushing audio technology and science to the limits, but this guy actually Does push audio technology and science to it's limits. I have this CD lying around at home with the documentary accompanying it, and this guy is pretty interesting. He worked with a sound scientist to record a few of the sounds on the album, and recorded everything in a foley room. The song Ever Falling is a definite favorite of mine. It's so beautiful! no doubt He's one of the best electronic musicians. and the best looking one. #19: And So I Watch You From Afar http://designora.com/wp-content/uplo...-From-Afar.jpg Post Rock count?: 9. This is another favorite from 2009, It's the self titled album by Ireland's And So I Watch You From Afar. I heard some web music magazine obsessing over this, so I got it. well, was it worthy of the hype? you bet! There are some real gems on this album. Like the seven minute long epic Don't Waste Time Doing Things You Hate. If you haven't heard this song, GOLOOKITUPNAO! It's awesome. My other favorite from the album is Eat The City, Eat It Whole.. It's definitely the album's most moody track. I recommend this to fans of Explosions In The Sky and Post rock in general. |
there are only 18 spots left....and you still have 7 Kraftwerk albums to list!
the artwork of these albums is spectacular.... |

#18: Animal Collective: Strawberry Jam http://evolkweenthemusical.files.wor..._res_cover.jpg If you were on the shoutbox last night, you would be well aware of my crush on panda bear. I mean, how is this not cute? He's not just good looking, he's one of the coolest members of animal collective. and damn, this album is good! Chores is one of my one of my favorite songs EVAR! For Reverend Green (vocals courtesy of the legendary Avey Tare) is another favorite, with the screamed lyrics and the unidentifiable backing instrument in the background. There's lots of instrument blurring on Strawberry Jam. You can't tell if it's electronics or if it's the real deal. If that happens, there's a big chance that you make awesome music. (see: Battles) |
And So I Watch You From Afar is an incredible choice.
|
yeah strawberry jam!
sure that pic of p-bear is cute...but this one is much better. keep up the great work! |

oh, heh, what a hilarious misunderstanding.
Grooveshark does let you scrobble to Last.fm, but you have to be a VIP member. Luckily I am a VIP member for a month, |
One of the best lists from a newcomer on these boards for a while. Eclectic and well informed.
I don't like all that has been posted but there is a lot I do like and all the more remarkable considering your age. A good read. People should take note. |
There is a lot of music on here I don't know and some stuff I'm going to check out. Personally I'm just not into post-rock so maybe thats why I'm not feeling the list that much at the moment.

#17: Aphex Twin: ...I Care Because You Do http://cfs8.tistory.com/image/21/tis.../48aeec8237ee7 This album is very special for me. If you were paying attention on the introduction boards, you might know that I use the open source modeling suite Blender3D. Well, let me tell you, this is NOT an easy program to learn, especially if you're new to 3D. This album was on repeat pretty much the entire time when I was learning it, and it helped me get through it. My favourite song on the album is "Alberto Balsam", because it was so... joyous. I mean, the metal squeaks, the happy synths, the simple beat... That's what helped me learn Blender. Even the more abrasive songs like Ventolin helped me learn the program, even with the high pitch that would make people with unaccustomed ears squeal in agony. A few of my other favourites are the orchestrated ones, like Next Heap With and Icct Hedral. Some other favorites include the half-ambient half-abrasive tracks like The Waxen Pith and Wax The Nip, with their beautiful futuristic themes and their sunny-ness. (this one goes out to bob.) #16: Kraftwerk: The Man Machine http://syncretist.org/wp-content/upl..._kraftwerk.jpg FACT: The Robots is the catchiest song in existence. |
#15: Boards Of Canada: Twoism http://www.beatfreax.com/images/releases/15415.jpg This is where it began. The band worshiped on the Twoism and WATMM forums began here. Looking back at it, it's nothing like their later work, (Geogaddi, The Campfire Headphase ect.) not at all. It's their humble beginnings as a band that produced average-ish electronic music. They never even hinted that they would be "That Nostalgic Electronica Band", they were just a band, making electronic music that provoked a creepy, stalker-ish cult following. The title song, Twoism, has always been a favourite for me. It's quite chill, without being slow, long, boring ambient music. Another good one is Oirectine, which was described appropriately as The sound of lava bubbling underwater on youtube. Boards of Canada, you guys are truly the best <3 #14: Steve Reich: Different Trains http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image...7bd94110.L.jpg This time, I'm reviewing the Different Trains part of the album. I honestly feel pretentious when listening to most music with violins. This is an exception. This is a piece that was pretty much what I've always wanted, it just took me years to find it. I love repetition, so it's natural that i'll love this. America Before The War is a fairly busy, citylike piece, with trains and a circa 1930's urban charm to it. The second piece, Europe During The War is significantly darker, with shrill train whistles, and twisted vocal samples. The last piece, After The War, is a revisit to the first movement, just slightly awesomer. Steve Reich is pretty much the only minimalist composer I listen to, and I am glad that I discovered him. |
Steve Reich does minimalist music, not classical.
