Not to get all technical on the guy who's getting all technical, but "genre mislabeling" would be, for example, calling a "song" a "symphony". Genre was originally used to differentiate between different types of MUSIC, not different types of song.

I've been contemplating getting it on all of our computers for years, So I know I'm in for some good stuff
Windows is just too bloated for me. I really don't need a lot of the stupid features on windows 7. I never use them so it's just hogging up my memory now. |

#9: Aphex Twin: SAW 85-92
This is the album that got me into Aphex Twin, and opened up new doors for me. Without this album, I'd still be listening to Hot Hot Heat or Interpol, and would be THE most narrow-minded person on the planet. This is probably the most influential electronic album around. It inspired Panda Bear, Fuck Buttons, Boards of Canada, and countless others (including some shameless Pulsewidth ripoffs *cough* Lone *cough*.) but Who could blame him? he never knew he would be this influential. let's talk songs, now. The album opens with the chill-ambient techno anthem Xtal (it took me years to figure out what the name meant ). If you've seen Ishkur's Guide, (which I use to show my friends who are prejudiced against Electronic music) Xtal is the first one I show them, Because it's class. One of my personal favourites of the album, Tha is next. You've got the tapping beat, the ethereal synth line and the vocal samples in the background. Whenever I hear this song, I think of an airport, with glass ceilings arched ceilings and is a long hall of side shops and metal detectors. The airport is pretty empty, but people are talking quietly among themselves, in the white, sterile environment. The next track, Pulsewidth, used to be the song played on my MP3 alarm clock, (R.I.P., musical alarm clock, you will not be forgotten.) because the song filled me with energy. It's a fun song, isn't it? It's the one of the best things to wake up to. The next track, Ageispolis, is a track that always makes me want to dance for some reason. Probably the best mix of ambient and dance out there. the next track, i, is the first break on the album, a nice way to calm down after tracks like Pulsewidth and Ageispolis. It's the album's shortest track, A beautiful, chill moment. Green Calx, The most abrasive track, is the underrated song on here. It's pure gold. I love to crank this track up just to hear the magnificent "PEW PEW!" sounds on the song. This one is definitely my favourite. Heliosphan, the seventh track, is the first Aphex song I've ever heard. I thought it was the coolest thing ever when I heard it. I had never before heard something like it. The quick, tinny electronic hi-hats, the gorgeous synth line... this is a true sign of a genius. We Are The Music Makers is a fan favourite, with the Willy Wonka sample and the curious synths. It even is the namesake of a popular electronic music forum. The next song, Schottkey 7th Path, reminds me of the soundtrack to some awesome detective CD-ROM game I had when I was five, so this song is quite nostalgic for me. I don't know why, but I personally think this should be the opening song to a crime drama on TV. That would be awesome! Ptolemy, the most electronic song on the album, is the sexiest song on the album. I don't even know why, but it just sounds sexy. case closed. Hedphelym (how the hell does he come up with these track titles?) is the creepy song on the album. As a joke, My friend decided to force me to listen to this song in the dark, alone. It was the scariest six minutes of my life. Especially that robot-esque synth at the 2:10 mark. That was terrifying. The last two tracks, Delphium and Actium go really well together, from the tropical-techno beats of the former track to the squeaky awesomeness of the latter track. TL;DL version: Cool Album. |
