Whether interpreted as being anti or pro war. Gimme Shelter by the Stones and We Wont Be Fooled Again by the Who seem to be two of the more popular war time singles since the 70s. Jimi Hendrix-Voodoo Chile fits in there somewhere? But that's to controversial, so I would pick his version of The National Anthem on guitar.

Marvin Gaye related to the war time era of the 70s and the struggles of the inner cities and so on, with singles like Whats Going On and Inner City Blues for example.

This one by Buffalo Springfield fits the venue well.

I think a song that has a good message is Make It Stop (September's Children) by Rise Against. It's pretty good; quite strong in my opinion. It sounds better acoustic though...hah. Check it out I guess. :hphones:

Duncan Dhu: Entre salitre y sudor ("Among Sea Salt and Sweat"). Whales.

I happened upon this vegan song today that amused me because it combines straight-forward, mild-mannered dietary suggestions with shockingly strong condemnation of meat eating. The song made me chuckle or at least startled me whenever it bounced so quickly between placid, non-confrontational nutrition information and vicious insults.

As for the video, I especially liked the photos of the preposterously grinning cow and the macabre, Saran-wrapped dead women:

The Flaming Lips -- "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song"

I heard this song for the first time yesterday on a university's alternative music radio station (I love universities!) and I enjoyed it immensely.

I like the song for its ethical message, which is about misuse of power. I like the song even more for its surprising video, which I watched this morning. I also like the song musically because of its low, grumbly notes, its strong beat and energy, and its quirky musical elements.

I haven't been hearing many songs recently that are about anything other than romantic love, and therefore hearing this one felt like a relief.

Pharrell Williams' "Happy" song has inadvertantly become an activist song after Iranian police arrested six Tehran female and male college students in May, 2014, because they posted a video of themselves dancing on a rooftop (very well!) to his music.

Amnesty International UK's Head of Campaigns, Champa Patel, "condemned the trial and told MailOnline: 'Arresting people for dancing in a video tribute to a song called Happy is taking things to a new level of dark irony even for the authoritarian Iranian authorities.'"

Here's to people who are enjoying being happy in a room without a roof of limitations above them. They should be able to do that without the police arresting them because they are "hurting public chastity."

I kinda liked Tracy Chapman's song "Revolution" when it came out. Listening to it again recently, I still feel moved by the song and her awareness of the problems caused by poverty and the reason social change is needed so that no one suffers from it.

I also feel she writes clever lyrics and sings them to show her empathy and concern very effectively:
