To be a good song, in my mind´s eye, it must have an original, distinct and not too complicated melody - and it must have a strong hook. The melody should be "in your face", it should leap out at you.

For these reasons I view the Beatles as (primarily Lennon and McCartney) as being the very best songwriters in popular music. I love the music of the Beatles.
