Green Day It really is just shitty pop music isn't it. Wait I hear some fans cry. Their early stuff was much more abrasive. No it wasn't it was Pop music just produced badly. 'I wanna be an American Idiot' Congratulations your goal has been achieved.

What it is wrong with pop music?

Although I would never classify Greenday as punk they have written some brilliant tracks with great pop hooks. I still give dookie a spin from time to time.

It seems this is a case of you hating the conception of the band rather than the music itself.

Lady Gaga, Usher, T-Pain, Lil' Wayne, Evanescence, Nickleback, Staind, Puddle of Mudd, Kid Rock. I could probably go on.

But a couple of bands that I've changed my mind about that would have subsequently been on this list in the past would be Queen and Rush.

Nothing is wrong with Pop music. Check my RYM for confirmation. I do not like shitty generic pop music.

and no I just hate the band for being banal and boring and disguising their commercial aspirations under a so called alternative sound and image.

Fair enough, it seems to be a thing to critiscise Greenday and the like for being pop and I just cant get on board with that.

Im not their biggest fan so Im not gonna defend them any further, decent band but not worthy of the sucess they have achieved but imo not worthy of the hate they get from detractors.

It's usually, but not always people over the age of 30 who dislike Green Day as we have all heard it before. There is no sinister campaign! If it helps they all suck- Offspring, Sum 41 etc. Utter tripe the lot of them.

Dookie and Smash are two excellent albums. I don't care whether they are pop or punk, it sounds great to *my* ears...
