The concept of "Selling out" is an interesting one. I remember as a teen hating any band that sold out. As I got older and into the music scene I realized that most bands don't make the money that I thought they did when I was younger. You would be surprised by how many of the smaller bands that you thought have "made it" that still have to work day jobs in order to pay rent.
As sad as it is to see a band sell out, many of them don't have a choice if they want to continue making their art. Sadly the music industry is a business and if you don't play the game......You will find yourself out of business. |

I would classify 'selling out' as when a band changed their motivation for doing music. E.g. they started doing it for the love of music, and playing music they enjoy, but changed style later on to suit the latest music trend and hopefully therefore make more money.
However, I do agree with tormusic completely, in that sometimes it may be necessary, but it is sad to see. |

I set a sell-out as someone who has left to pursue their ideas more public to make more money or make more money easier.A personal definition is someone who has changed behavior to please someone else at the expense of their own.Behavioral change for good or for the benefit of a group can not meet this definition.

I see a sell-out as a band who makes music purely and only for the money, without any motivation to make the music good.
I don't consider many bands as sell-outs though. You have to really ask the band if they've sold out or not to know whether they have

The Beatles were the biggest sell outs of all time. Back in their younger days the Beatles were a smoking swearing bunch of cool teens that performed rock covers in front of people.
Mostly it was at the cavern in Hamburg a strip club and they were only like 16. So, like anyways a guy named Brian Epstein got their attention signed them. He said loose the jeans leather dont look like a rebel. Get a bowl haircut and sing pop songs. They weren't really sure and the songs were really lame mostly towards young girls. But, it really worked out. Brian Epstein committed suicide and the Beatles got their own record label and started experience with acid and came up with great song writing. I would end it like this I think Paul McCartney is worth a billion. Sometimes it goes great for you. |

What?
In 1960 none of the Beatles were 16 years old. They were all 17-20 roughly but definitely not 16. The Cavern club is in Liverpool in England. Not Hamburg. I thought Brian Epstein died of an overdose but not suicide? |
