And now for the photo.

^ Nice pics, ribbons and Farewell, though I did find myself closer to Thelonious Monk's forehead than I really needed to be!

Sorry if I can't think of a pun for this photo of a short-lived team of musical talent: Kevin Ayers, Nico, John Cale and Eno. Unfortunately the June 1, 1974 album they did together was a little disappointing if I remember rightly. Still, ten out of ten for looking incredibly cool together.

I knew Eno met up with the Velvet Underground. In fact he got his EMS synthesizer after visiting The Factory. It was sitting in the hallway all by itself lonesome - no one was really using it. So Eno asked Andy if he could have it, and he was like sure take it - something like that. The synth made it on Roxy Music's debut album. You can even see Eno playing it on TOTP. What I didn't know was Eno made an album with John Cale and Nico. Seems like they had a pretty promising line-up with (official/unofficial) members from Soft Machine, Roxy Music and Velvet Underground & Nico. I don't know how well receive their album was. I'm guessing no one considered them a super group at the time. But looking back (with only one album) perhaps "super project" would be more apt!?

^ That's interesting. Yes, super-project would be a better description of what they were up to.

Mike Ratledge, Hugh Hopper, Roger Whyatt and Elton Dean, aka Soft Machine in 1970 - but never mind about them, get a load of the real star of this photo: the Royal Albert Hall.

Such a joyous photo - and terribly sad to think that Claudette was killed in a motorcycle accident two years later, and Roy Jr. (and his younger brother Anthony) were killed in a house fire two years after that. Roy Orbison has had to endure and survive so much tragedy.

Lisna, cool photo of the Softs outside the Royal Albert. Given the recent mentions of John Lennon on this thread, I find myself wondering how many holes it would take to fill that building. Apparently the Royal Albert took umbrage at The Beatles' mention of it in "A Day In The Life":

That's a great story, Nea. I never knew that Eno acquired the EMS synth at The Factory. I believe this was the same synth Eno gifted to Bowie in 1999. It was on display at the "David Bowie Is" exhibit which I attended in Brooklyn a couple of years ago. Eno gave it to Bowie with a note reading, "Look after it. Patch it up in strange ways - it's surprising that it can still make noises that nothing else can make."
