Great photos from the Rolling Thunder Revue posted here. Farewell: like Lisnaholic, I appreciate your descriptions as on first glance I thought John Prine was Captain Beefheart in that pic. Lisna: Love the photos of Joni/Roger/Bob and the “Bob”bsey Twins Baez and Dylan. I read an account of that party at Lightfoot’s home: Immediately after Joni/Roger/Bob rehearsed “Coyote” in the master bedroom (note bay windows and floral wallpaper!) and returned downstairs, Dylan and his sidekick Bob Neuwirth had a big fight about Dylan drinking only carrot juice and Neuwirth threw his black leather jacket into the fireplace, filling the entire house with thick clouds of black smoke. No regrets, Coyote – we just come from such different sets of circumstance.
“Coyote” is believed to be about Joni’s affair with writer Sam Shepard, who she met on the tour, and about the tour itself. Privately probing the public rooms And peeking through keyholes in numbered doors Where the players lick their wounds And take their temporary lovers And their pills and powders to get them through this passion play. No regrets, Coyote - I'll just get off up aways |

I forgot to give kudos to your Belew/Fripp photo earlier. Big fan of both of those guys. Especially Fripp. Love just about everything that guy has been on. Here's bathrobe-era Brian Wilson and Moon The Loon aka Keith Moon having a chat. This was apparently at Moon's birthday party somewhere in Hollywood. Alice Cooper, Micky Dolenz, Harry Nilsson, Ringo Starr, Iggy Pop among many other music legends were there that night. Rumor has it this was around '74 or so? This was when Brian Wilson would show up at public places in his bathrobe. His mental health was at the apex of deterioration at this point in time along with the massive weight gain for all to see. I'm ripping this quote directly from SmileySmile forum board (Brian Wilson fan board), highlighting how bad Wilson's mental health was during this period. Alice Cooper quote: I was sitting backstage after the 1974 Grammys with Bernie Taupin (Elton John’s lyricist) and John Lennon. This was when Brian was really having some mental issues. During the course of the conversation, I kept seeing Brian out of the corner of my eye, just kind of staring at us from different angles. Finally, he came up to the table, bent down and whispered in my ear ‘Hey Alice, introduce me to John Lennon.’ I couldn’t BELIEVE that these two men had never met! They were virtually neck and neck in the 60’s as the greatest bands on the planet, and I’m SURE they must have crossed paths at some point. But then I thought to myself, ‘Wow, if they REALLY have never met, I’m going to be the one to introduce them and become a part of rock history!’ So I merely said, ‘Brian Wilson, this is John Lennon. John Lennon, this is Brian Wilson.’ Lennon was very cordial and polite, saying things like ‘Hello Brian, I’ve always wanted to meet you. I’ve always admired your work, and Paul and I considered Pet Sounds one of the best albums ever made.’ Brian thanked him and walked away, at which point Lennon went right back to his conversation like nothing had happened. About ten minutes later, Brian came by our table again, leaned down and whispered something to Bernie, and all of a sudden, Bernie was saying ‘Brian Wilson, this is John Lennon. John Lennon, Brian Wilson.’ Lennon was just as cordial and polite as the first time, saying essentially the same thing about always wanting to meet him. As soon as Brian walked away, John looked at both of us and casually said in his typical Liverpudlian accent, ‘I’ve met him hundreds of times. He’s not well, you know. |
